Cupra launches cheaper Raval from €30,000
The Cupra Raval is the first model in the Volkswagen Group’s new family of electric compact cars. When it launched in April, the Spanish brand announced a broad model range but initially opened orders only for the higher-spec variants. Since then, customers have been able to choose from three Launch Editions starting at €37,250.
Cupra had originally planned to introduce the entry-level Raval, priced from €25,950, in summer. The configurator now lists its arrival for September. In the meantime, the brand has added a more affordable variant to the configurator: the Raval Plus, which sits one step above the upcoming base model.
The Raval’s drivetrain and battery lineup reveals a clear split between entry-level and higher-performance variants. Like the VW ID. Polo, Cupra offers the electric small car with power outputs of 85, 99, 155 and 166 kW. Customers can choose between two battery options: the 85 kW and 99 kW versions use a 37 kWh net LFP battery, while the 155 kW and 166 kW variants feature a 52 kWh NMC battery.
The newly configurable Raval Plus, priced at just under €30,000, combines the 99 kW front-mounted motor with the 37 kWh battery. Cupra describes the variant as the “entry into the mid-range performance class of the fully electric city car.” According to the manufacturer, deliveries of this trim are scheduled to begin in mid-September.
Measuring 4.05 metres in length, with a wheelbase of 2.60 metres, a width of around 1.78 metres and a height of 1.52 metres, the Raval targets the compact EV segment with a distinctly sporty character. The front end features Cupra’s Sharknose design, sharp body lines and Matrix LED headlights. Along the sides, the design adopts softer contours and incorporates flush-fitting door handles.
At the rear, Cupra highlights its brand identity with a prominent diffuser and 3D lighting elements. A full-width light bar and illuminated borderless logo further emphasise the vehicle’s broad stance. Customers can personalise the Raval with a choice of exterior paint finishes, two roof colours and a range of alloy wheel designs.
Technically, the Raval is based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform and features front-wheel drive, like the other compact electric models in the new family, including the VW ID. Polo, VW ID. Cross and Škoda Epiq. Cupra quotes a WLTP range of up to 300 kilometres for the Raval Plus. The variants equipped with the larger battery can cover up to 444 kilometres.
The Raval Plus supports AC charging at up to 11 kW and DC charging at up to 88 kW. According to Cupra, a DC fast-charging session from 10 to 80 per cent takes around 23 minutes.
The interior mirrors the Raval’s sporty exterior design. Standard equipment includes sports seats, a 10.25-inch Android-based digital cockpit, a 12.9-inch infotainment display, a progressive steering system and a boot capacity of 441 litres.
The Raval Plus also comes equipped with LED headlights and rear lights, single-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, heat-insulating glass and front ambient lighting. Further standard features include voice control, DAB+ digital radio, a seven-speaker audio system and a range of driver assistance systems.
Customers can enhance comfort and safety with three optional packages: Edge, Drive and Light & Sound. The Edge package, priced at €1,010, adds features including a 15-watt wireless smartphone charger, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and keyless entry. The Drive package costs €690 and includes the Travel Assist 3.0 driver assistance system, among other features. For €950, the Light & Sound package upgrades the audio system to a 12-speaker Sennheiser setup and adds extended ambient lighting. Optional extras include a tow hitch (€650) and a panoramic roof (€650).
The Raval Plus joins the three Launch Editions already available in the configurator. The Dynamic variant combines the 155 kW drivetrain with the larger battery and starts at €37,250. The Dynamic Plus features the same powertrain and is priced from €41,605. At the top of the range, the VZ Extreme pairs the 166 kW drivetrain with the larger battery and starts at €46,525.
