Anime Fans Officially Crown New Isekai Series Over Attack On Titan
Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan has stood as one of the most popular and iconic anime series in the recent era. In fact, Attack on Titan has been one of the biggest contributors to making anime as mainstream as it is today. In that sense, it is an icon that can only be matched by a select few series.
That said, with anime now more mainstream than ever before, new series often keep popping up and earn plaudits from fans all over the world. At the same time, the level of quality has also gone up significantly, and now, one of the most famed Isekai of all time, Re:Zero, has officially surpassed Attack on Titan and been voted by fans all over the world as a better series overall.
Anime Fans Have Officially Voted Re:Zero's Newest Release Over Attack on Titan's Peak
On April 8, 2026, Re:Zero Season 4 officially debuted on streaming services such as Crunchyroll, and it is currently on its 19-episode run, which is set to resume next month, on August 12, 2026. Re:Zero has always been a beloved anime in the Isekai genre, and this is largely down to the fact that it has handled an incredibly oversaturated genre and done something completely unique. At the same time, the level of storytelling in Re:Zero is absolutely immense and, in its own way, comparable to even Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan. When Re:Zero Season 4 began, no fan expected it to hit the heights that it did.
Re:Zero Season 4 is a master class in storytelling, and the adaptation has been absolutely flawless as well. It is up there with some of the best anime story arcs, and the fact is that the best of it is yet to come. On online platforms such as My Anime List, Re:Zero has officially secured a higher rating than Attack on Titan’s best season, which is its third season featuring the Return to Shiganshina arc. Currently, Re:Zero Season 4 stands at a 9.17 out of 10 rating, which is incredibly high and puts it only behind Sosou no Frieren Season 1. In fact, the difference between Frieren and Re:Zero is not that massive, and it is entirely possible that when Season 4 of Re:Zero resumes and the intensity goes up, it stands a chance at surpassing it. Meanwhile, the peak of Attack on Titan, that is, its third season, stands with a rating of 9.05, which is also impressive in its own way. For Re:Zero to surpass this absolute mammoth of an anime series goes to show that it has, in fact, earned the right to be included in the conversations for being the best anime.
Why Re:Zero Stands As The Greatest Isekai Of All Time
The Isekai genre has been incredibly popular in Japan, but it has been catching on slowly in the rest of the world slowly. With the anime boom that we have enjoyed over the course of the last few years, Isekai is now incredibly mainstream and loved. That said, this wasn't always the case. At one point, even in the anime niche, Isekai was a niche of its own, which not many fans cared about as much as Shonen. However, Re:Zero is one of the pioneers of this entire genre. Before Re:Zero, Isekai wasn't as popular, especially in the West. Perhaps the biggest Isekai before it in the West was Sword Art Online. With Re:Zero, fans were opened to a whole new world of possibilities and exciting things that this genre was doing, and for that reason, it remains one of the biggest Isekai of all time.
Needless to say, the hype that Re:Zero gets is fully deserved. Every single story arc is written to perfection by the author Tappei Nagatsuki, and things consistently keep improving in terms of quality. While the wait between the seasons can be long, the final product always delivers because this story is nothing short of sensational.
The Future Of The Attack On Titan And Re:Zero Franchises
The future of Re:Zero is very exciting at the moment. The fourth season of the series is set to continue, and at the moment, we have confirmation that it will resume on August 12, 2026.
What's to come is a lot of exciting content and perhaps a stretch of episodes that could even be worthy of being called the best of 2026. Re:Zero is only going to raise the intensity from here onward, and that is something we are incredibly excited by. Furthermore, we know that Re:Zero is not ending with its fourth season, which means that, in the upcoming years, more Re:Zero content is most definitely going to be on the way, setting fans up for a lot of exciting storylines.
On the other hand, Attack on Titan has, unfortunately, fully wrapped up. Hajime Isayama, the creator of Attack on Titan, stated that he has given everything he had to this franchise, and as things stand, he is not looking to write more Attack on Titan content. Even if he tries, to him, it simply feels like something that he's already poured into the Attack on Titan story. In that sense, Isayama has already done everything he wanted to do as a story writer, so his return is highly unlikely. That said, there are some side stories and spin-offs that could still be adapted into anime for the fans to enjoy. That responsibility would fall on Mappa, the anime studio that has undertaken the Attack on Titan project and holds rights to it at the moment.
Unfortunately, there is no official confirmation for an Attack on Titan return, be it for the manga or the anime, but fans can still stay hopeful that this mammoth franchise can one day be revitalized in some way or form. For now, Attack on Titan has already been immortalized as a giant of anime that only a select few, such as Re:Zero, can compare to. The love fans have for Attack on Titan is absolutely incredible, and the fact that it is still alive today is proof of its immense popularity. Even though Re:Zero beat Attack on Titan, anime opinions are largely subjective at the end of the day, and Attack on Titan still does things that only a select few series can even hope to accomplish.
All the episodes of Re:Zero and Attack on Titan are available to watch via Crunchyroll.
