It looks like Crash Bandicoot might be gearing up for some sort of announcement for his 30th anniversary, as a new tease has been shared out of nowhere.

As long as you’re not Banjo-Kazooie, it’s actually a pretty good time to be a platforming mascot. From Pac-Man and Croc to Bubsy and Gex, we’ve seen revivals, remasters, and new games for tons of our favourite characters in the genre. Even Spyro is coming back after a ridiculously long time, suggesting Xbox is finally paying attention to what it’s got.

Of course, that has left everyone wondering whether Crash Bandicoot, who is also bizarrely owned by Xbox, is going to be making his own comeback, as it’s been a few years since the last Crash game, and even more since the last good one. After that long silence, it looks like Crash is teasing some kind of return, but what it's actually for is a little murky.

Crash Social Media Appears To Be Teasing Something New

Let’s Hope It’s Not Netflix Or Fortnite

As pointed out by Twitter user SpyroUniverse, the official Crash Bandicoot social media accounts recently shared a new post out of the blue after being silent for some time, outside of holiday posts. The video shows mascot Crash walking onto a set and sitting on a chair, with the caption, “Preparing for my documentary on ‘90s video game mascots” and "Ready for my close up".

For the record, whatever’s happening probably isn’t a documentary, and instead is a teaser for whatever’s actually being announced. Crash has a long history of strange hints and teases before his next project, and, with the series’ 30th anniversary coming up later this year, it's very likely that the tease is hyping that up.

The marker shown at the beginning of the video has a ton of allusions to Crash turning 30, in case you needed any more hints that it's to do with the anniversary.

That just leaves us with what’s going to end up being announced. While I’d love to say it could be a new game, it’s worth remembering that Crash is heavily rumoured to be getting an animated show on Netflix (which would fit this tease) and is also said to be coming to Fortnite. Both of those seem more like what’s being teased here than a new game.

To think a little positively, though, it's worth noting that a leaker who shared the existence of both Rayman Legends Retold and Spyro: A Realm Beyond before they were announced has claimed that a new Crash is coming in 2028. That's still quite far out, but it could potentially be confirmed as part of the anniversary.
