Demon Slayer Officially Sets Up 3 New Demon Slayer Mark Users
The Demon Slayer anime series has been ongoing since 2019, with the beginning of its first season by Studio Ufotable. Since then, we have received a sensational run of 4 seasons, and two sensational movies, the most recent of which came in 2025 in the form of the record-breaking Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza’s Return.
This new Demon Slayer installment has commenced the final stretch of the story in the anime, and in the last stretch of the story, the stakes are going to be higher than ever before. Consequently, the Demon Slayer Corps have to power up if they want to defeat the remaining Upper Ranks 1 and 2, as well as the Demon King himself. To achieve that, some Hashira are now on the pathway to awaken their Demon Slayer marks. These new Demon Slayer mark users are Gyomei, Senyami, and Obanai, and their power-ups will greatly help them in their next battles, but naturally, it will come at a great cost to their lives.
Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Part 2 Will See Gyomei and Sanemi Unlock Their Demon Slayer Marks
Demon Slayer set up the Infinity Castle arc at the end of Season 4, when the Demon Slayer Corps attacked Muzan headfirst. In Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, which was officially released in July 2025, we finally saw the beginning of these hyped up confrontations. The first movie saw the fall of Upper Rank 3 Akaza and the defeat of Kaigaku. There are still, however, quite a few Demons left at the moment. One of these demons is Kokushibo, and he possesses the power of Moon Breathing, making him a deadly enemy for anyone to face. With terrifying skills and nigh-unstoppable regeneration, he is not an easy foe to take down. In his upcoming battle, which is set to be featured in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, we will see Muichiro, Genya, Gyomei, and Sanemi take him head-on, and needless to say, this fight will be their hardest yet in the story.
While Muichiro already gained his Demon Slayer Mark back in Demon Slayer Season 3 versus Gyokko, the others still haven't tapped into this power-up. In Demon Slayer Chapter 169, released on August 5, 2019, in Double Issue #36-37, Gyomei finally goes on to reveal his Demon Slayer mark, which consists of cracked fissure patterns across his arms. Sanemi, meanwhile, unlocks his a chapter later in Demon Slayer Chapter 170, which was released on August 12, 2019, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #38. His Demon Slayer mark goes across his face, shaped like a windmill.
Immediately upon unlocking their Demon Slayer marks, we can see their attributes increase tremendously, including their strength and speed. By unlocking their Demon Slayer marks, the Slayers were able to tap into other previously unavailable abilities. Notably, for Gyomei, he was able to use Transparent World, and gain the ability to combine his force with Sanemi to heat up their Nichirin weapons, unlocking the Red Bright Blade, which is what dealt the final blow to Kokushibo.
The Final Movie Will Reveal The Final Hashira Demon Slayer Mark Of Obanai
Gyomei and Sanemi will be the main highlights in Infinity Castle Part 2. After the second movie, there is the finale of the trilogy that we're all eagerly waiting for. Right now, it is referred to by the fans as Infinity Castle Part 3. In the final movie, a new Hashira is all set to unlock their Demon Slayer mark, and this individual is none other than Obanai, the Serpent Hashira. Obanai and Mitsuri are not involved in any major battles until the final battle. Instead, they focus their full energy on taking the Demon King at full force.
While Mitsuri already unlocked her mark in Season 3 against Hanatengu, we got to see Obanai unlock his in Demon Slayer Chapter 189, which was released in WSJ Double Issue #6-7 on January 3, 2020. His Demon Slayer mark manifested as snake-like marks across his arm. With it unlocked, Obanai developed massively in power, and his newfound power allows him to keep up with Muzan’s fast and unforgiving attacks, all the while protecting his allies.
“I have contributed the least out of everyone in this battle. If only I could attack in a more efficient way… when a creature’s life is on the brink of danger, they’ll show an explosive amount of power. Even a powerless hand that’s never held anything heavier than a chopstick can break through a cage’s lattice with a single hairpin. I know that.” — Obanai, moments before awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, Demon Slayer Chapter #189
With the Demon Slayer Mark upping his power, Obanai was also able to heat up his Nichirin Blade and turn it into a bright red one. For a second, he was even able to see the Transparent World, even though at that point, it was too late for him to make a difference. Still, we're eagerly waiting to see this battle brought to life.
All New Demon Slayer Mark Users Will Pay A Heavy Price In The Next Big Movie Releases
The greatest power-up a Demon Slayer can receive is a Demon Slayer mark. This mark is mysterious and started appearing on Slayers all over during the era of Yoriichi. However, quickly, Slayers marked with it started dying in droves. It was revealed in Demon Slayer Chapter 178 that whoever awakens a Demon Slayer mark dies by the age of 25. As Kokushibu stated, the user of the Demon Slayer mark pays for it with their lives.
“In the end, I couldn’t use Sun Breathing. I used a mere derivative, which I later named Moon Breathing. I thought I could catch up to Yoriichi if I just trained myself some more, but as I anguished over those painful thoughts, the marked people started dying in droves. They paid for the mark with their lives, and so this golden age would soon come to an end. There was no future for me. There was no time left for me either.” — Michikatsu Tsugikuni in Demon Slayer Chapter #178
Because of awakening his Demon Slayer mark, Gyomei, who is 27, dies after the Muzan battle, tragically succumbing to the effect of the mark. Obanai and Mitsuri also die, but from unrelated injuries after. The two surviving Hashira, Sanemi and Giyu, survive, but they will also meet their end in a few years once they reach the age of 25. The only people known to survive the Demon Slayer mark are those born with a birthmark in its spot. There are only two characters we know of who have survived it naturally, those being Yoriichi and Tanjiro. The only other way of surviving this mark that feeds on its user's life force is to become a Demon, something that Kokushibo went through back when he was Michikatsu Tsugikuni.
