If you've ever spent hours on Elden Ring or Final Fantasy 14 and been told that playing games is a waste of time, and it will never amount to anything in life (a bizarre argument from the TV and movie watchers of the world to begin with), then you now officially have something to show that person thanks to the University of Silicon Valley.

Having gone semi-viral on social media recently, the University of Silicon Valley is offering up scholarships to pro-gamers, provided they can prove they've achieved impressive feats in a number of different games. In their words, the university is offering rewards "through the completion of rare and demanding achievements in digital gaming environments."

If You're Good At Elden Ring, You Could Get A Scholarship

The Tarnished fighting a Leyndell Knight in Elden Ring.

The scholarship that you get depends on the achievements you've earned. Each game has two tiers, those being Legendary and Mastery, with the former requiring the more impressive achievement. If you manage to get a Legendary scholarship, you'll get $5,000 every year for three years, and just $2,500 if you're in the Mastery tier.

As for the games that are included, there's a pretty wide variety, ranging from MMOs to roguelike to platformers. A few examples include getting all combat, gatherer, and crafter jobs up to 100 in Final Fantasy 14, collecting all the Golden Strawberries in Celeste, and earning all the achievements across all three mainline Dark Souls games.

There are even pretty niche titles like Noita, Returnal, and Ghostrunner, so it's not like this is a program that's being run by someone who's doing their best impression of the "how do you do fellow kids" guy. You do have to write an essay to go along with proof of these achievements, but if you're aiming to go to the University of Silicon Valley, there's a chance your gaming prowess could grab you $15,000.
