Before Wyzeman feels confident about joining the gang in Echoes of Aincrad, you'll need to complete the Cave Diving main story quest to get through Teardrop Cave once more in search of specific upgrade materials to make your journey to Tolbana a bit easier for the group.

You'll begin the quest from Horunka Village and work your way through the area back to Teardrop Cave, fighting enemies of all sorts as you venture to the goal and handling a fairly tough boss fight at the end of it all. Here's what you need to know about the Cave Diving quest!

How To Complete The Cave Diving Quest

Starting location for the Dire Strife boss fight in Echoes of Aincrad, Horunka.

When the group is ready to make their way to Tolbana, Wyzeman suggests you head back to Teardrop Cave in search of the materials that'll help you level up some weapons for him so he can join you as a proper teammate at long last.

Accept the quest from Horunka Village, but be sure you've stocked up on Holy Water before you go, since you've got a lot of Paralysis to cure ahead. Once you're back out in the overworld again, check your map and make your way to the Thieve's Gutter safe area in the southern section of the map, since this is the closest warp point to the quest goal. Teleport if you can, or make your way there to unlock the map if not.

From the safe area, follow the path around the mountain, going north-west and then south around the mountain to the entrance to Teardrop Cave. The path is littered with enemies, though, so fight your way to the entrance to Teardrop Cave where you'll face a mini-boss, the Dire Strife Wolf.

Dire Strife Wolf Fight

This boss is your first clue that you'll need to watch for the Paralysis status effect, which will make your character fall over on the ground and be completely unable to fight or defend themselves from monsters. Use your Holy Water to dispel the Paralysis meter on your character before it reaches the top to prevent them from being impacted.

Paralysis also deals damage to your character, so you'll need to not only dispel the ailment itself, but you'll likely need to heal up after. Iori will be with you for this section of the game, so make ample use of her healing abilities and your mix of healing items from your pouch to stay afloat. Depending on your difficulty, the Dire Strife Wolf may be the first real resistance you encounter from a boss in Echoes of Aincrad.

If the fight goes on for a little bit, you might see the Dire Strife Wolf summon mobs of wolves to join it on the battlefield, making for one heck of a distraction. You'll want to target the Dire Strife Wolf here and set your partner on Free Mode to handle the mobs while you keep chipping away at the boss. That said, if you have any Sword Skills that can hit multiple targets, now might be a good time to use them, since you can hit the wolves from the mob and the Dire Strife Wolf boss in one blow without using multiple portions of your SP.

Being paralyzed by the Dire Wolf in Echoes of Aincrad in the Cave Diving quest.

This gets trickier, though, since the Dire Strife Wolf reincarnates into a second phase after it goes down the first time, but it's missing its head. This means there's a large pocket of electricity exposed, making Paralysis all the more real a threat this time around.

The wolf will pounce around the battlefield, and you're more likely to be afflicted with Paralysis as it goes, which means it might pounce on your character and deal some serious damage if they've succumbed to their Paralysis and fallen. If you need a moment to heal or use Holy Water, have your partner distract the boss so you can replenish yourself as needed.

As long as you're able to keep away from the electrified area where the Dire Strife Wolf's head once was during the first phase of this boss fight in Echoes of Aincrad, you'll be able to dispatch it in no time with careful use of your strongest weapons for which you've mastered the strongest Sword Skills. Keep your distance as much as possible and stay away from the head stump to succeed in the fight against the Dire Strife Wolf.

Once it finally goes down, pick up the loot it drops (which will be a mixture of weaponry you can use as soon as you get back to Horunka and can switch out, Col, and a slew of assorted crafting materials), carry on into Teardrop Cave when you're done. Follow the path down to the first terminal and activate it and complete the Cave Diving quest in Echoes of Aincrad.
