My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way pauses concert to talk classic RPGs, admits he hasn't played Baldur's Gate 3 yet: 'The first one was a lot of fun, the closest thing at the time to playing D&D'

There are, somehow, those of us who still haven't played the hit 2023 RPG Baldur's Gate 3, and I know that because someone asked My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way at a recent concert.

As spotted by IGN, the question came via a large paper sign made by fan KatanaLuciana, who recorded the interaction for TikTok. The sign caught the eye of a bandmember, who then tapped Way's shoulder to get his take between songs.

"No, I've only played Baldur's Gate 1," Way announced to the room. "Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time, you know?"

Way's nerd bona fides are well documented—he's a longtime D&D player, once streamed Overwatch and discussed his love of D.Va, and co-created the Umbrella Academy comic series that later became a Netflix show—but I'm not sure he's talked at length about classic CRPGS. He clearly knows some ball, so we'll forgive him for remembering Icewind Dale as an expansion rather than a standalone game.

"Did you play Baldur's Gate 3?" he asked fans. "Is it good? I would assume so, the first one was a lot of fun. It was the closest thing at the time to playing D&D."

At risk of putting my foot in my mouth, if he loved crusty ol' Baldur's Gate at the time, imagine how Larian's modern masterclass would hit. The studio quickly caught wind of Way's interest, of course, and reached out to help correct the injustice.

".@gerardway of My Chemical Romance, what do you mean you haven't played the critically-acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons RPG, @baldursgate3," the official Larian account posted. "There's a code with your name on it if you fancy trying it."

Somebody get that man a Steam Deck, because I can't imagine a better game to pass long hours of touring.
