Elder Scrolls Online: Favors & Dynamic Encounters, Explained
Favors and Dynamic Encounters were added to The Elder Scrolls Online as part of Update 50, and both provide players with new content to experience. Favors are essentially daily quests that have been designed with certain themes in mind, while Dynamic Encounters are public events that can give you plenty of rewards for little effort. If you're curious as to how these systems work in ESO, here's a summary for both Favors and Dynamic Encounters.
What are Favors in ESO?
Think of Favors as daily quests that got rebranded to feature a more story-driven approach. In terms of pure gameplay, they're not that different from the daily quests you've been doing up until now, but if you care for exposition and bits of narrative that keep you immersed in the world of ESO just a tiny bit more, then this change will definitely a positive one for you.
You can get Favors in ESO by visiting tier one cities (Ebonheart, Skywatch, and Aldcroft) and interacting with the Freerunners' post boards found inside them. Once you pick up a favor from the board, you'll get your daily task, and once you're done with that, return to the post board to receive your rewards.
When you complete a Favor, you'll get a message from the clients who posted the job you just completed. The client varies per city, and so too does the narrative that unfolds with each Favor you complete. In short, focus on doing Favors in one city if you want to experience whatever story the ESO team is cooking.
What are Dynamic Encounters in ESO?
Dynamic Encounters are similar to the various world events (like Dark Anchors and Oblivion Portals) you see in different parts of Tamriel. What makes them different, however, is that Dynamic Encounters are narrative-driven, multi-stage activities that involve more than just killing waves upon waves of enemies.
You'll know if a Dynamic Encounter is active if the marker on the image above is present on your map. Approach the icon, and you'll automatically join the Dynamic Encounter along with everyone else in the vicinity. Complete the encounter to receive a shower of XP and a bundle of rewards.
Keep in mind that the difficulty of Dynamic Encounters scales based on how many players are participating, and since it's an overworld activity, your ESO Challenge Difficulty settings will affect you too. Still, these shouldn't be hard to finish if there's an entire doomstack of people trying to finish the event with you.
As of writing, Dynamic Encounters are only available in Auridon, Glenumbra, and Stonefalls. If you miss an encounter, a new one will start roughly 30 minutes after the previous one ended.
