Xbox Game Pass Adds 2025 Open-World Game

If he was forced to pick a favorite game genre, he'd go with RPGs, but he wasn't, so he didn't.
The Xbox Game Pass library has expanded to include Mavrix by Matt Jones. The open-world sports game marks the fifth addition to the service in July 2026 and the 113th Xbox Game Pass release of the year.
Developed by British studio Third Kind Games, Mavrix is an open-world mountain biking game set across a 100-square-kilometer landscape heavily inspired by Wales. Players can explore downhill courses, slopestyle lines, and a wide variety of hidden challenges, then replay them to improve their race times, trick scores, and leaderboard positions. The game not only carries Matt Jones's branding, but also reflects his direct involvement. The British professional mountain biker co-founded its publisher, Cascade Interactive, and served as one of the project's lead biking consultants. Compared with many modern biking games, Mavrix aims to stand out by offering a more demanding experience built first and foremost as a simulation.
Mavrix Lands on Xbox Game Pass After 1 Year
Mavrix entered early access on PC and PS5 in July 2025, followed by the Xbox Series X/S in January 2026. The game received its full 1.0 release on July 16, coinciding with its arrival on Xbox Game Pass. Because it is not a full-fledged day-one title, Mavrix is immediately available across nearly every tier of Xbox Game Pass: Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. Subscribers can jump into the open-world sports sim via the Xbox Series X/S, PC, or Xbox Cloud Gaming. Additionally, Mavrix is rated as specifically optimized for handheld PCs in the vein of the ROG Xbox Ally line. As of mid-July 2026, it has hundreds of "Very Positive" player reviews on Steam.

Mavrix is the first hardcore mountain biking simulation available through Microsoft's subscription service. It arrives just under a year after the cozy mountain biking adventure Wheel World debuted on Xbox Game Pass. Wheel World recently received a substantial Xbox Store discount, dropping from $19.99 to $11.99, which may signal that it will soon leave the subscription service.

July 17 is the next date that Xbox Game Pass subscribers may want to circle on their calendars, as that is when extraction platformer FixForce and deck-building roguelite Fogpiercer are scheduled to join the service. The Planet Crafter is then due on July 21, which is also when Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 was meant to reach Xbox Game Pass before its release was canceled due to licensing issues. Activision is reportedly still working to resolve the licensing situation, though it has not formally characterized the issue as a delay.
July 21 is also the most likely date for Microsoft to announce the second wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for the month. So far, only one title is confirmed for the lineup: Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo's single-player campaign, which is scheduled for release on July 28.
