Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been getting a lot of attention since its launch last week for both good and bad reasons. The latest example appears to fall into a grey area right in the middle, as players can’t decide whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing that the breasts on the remake’s statues have been covered up.

Assassin's Creed Fans Debate Resynced's Censorship

The accused statue is a figurehead that can be found on the front of a ship in Resynced. Kyvix2020 shared a side-by-side of how the figurehead looks in Resynced compared to the original Black Flag on Reddit. The original statue’s breasts are exposed, whereas in the remake, they’re covered by additional armor.

OP has questioned why bad language and over-the-top violence are allowed in games, but nudity, at least in this instance, is censored. Particularly when Resynsced is rated M for Mature, which means, legally, you have to be 17 or older to buy and play it.

A lot of fans are in agreement that censoring the statue the way Ubisoft has is a little much, and also somewhat confusing considering the rating the game carries. Clearly, a decision was made at some stage during Resynced’s development, and it’s unlikely we will ever know when or why the team behind the game decided the figurehead’s breasts might be a little too much with the remake’s incredibly impressive graphics.

Some Fans Don't Understand Why You Care

The argument against those getting upset about Resynced’s statue censorship is little more than a simple “why do you care?” which is a fair point. It’s a little surprising that anyone even noticed, especially just days after the remake’s release. There are likely people playing the original Black Flag and Resynced back to back, maybe even at the same time, perhaps with the intention of picking up on smaller details that have been changed between the two games.

Censored statues are far from the worst reason Resynced has been in the headlines. The remake has suffered less-than-stellar Steam reviews thanks to its microtransactions, and there’s a bug that’s wiping hours of progress. It has also come to light that 51 developers from Ubisoft Barcelona, the team that's responsible for the remake, were laid off a month before the game was released. Despite all of that, the Black Flag revival smashed the original's concurrent player count on Steam as soon as it launched, and became the first Assassin's Creed game ever to have a concurrent player count over 100,000 on the platform.
