Sam Woods is TheGamer’s Senior Reporter. He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer.
Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game.
Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games.
Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion.
He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times.
Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises.
We are (finally) so back... In all our time covering the additions of new Baldur's Gate 3 console content, a wait between drops has never lasted this long. It got to the point where we thought Larian might have moved on, but they haven't, and we are here.
With the last drop coming on June 23, we've had to wait three weeks for new content, and it's been killer. Thankfully, Larian's hiatus is over, and it has officially vetted, uploaded, and approved ten new pieces of content for Baldur's Gate 3 console players to jump into.
Baldur's Gate 3 Console Players Can Now Play As A Witch Elf And A "Leader"
I'm under no illusion that a lot of effort goes into Larian officially vetting, approving, and uploading new console mods. This wait has been painful, in what has been a sporadic year. Last year, these drops happened almost weekly; this year, we've regularly gone a fortnight without one. However, it's understandable given the studio is likely focusing on its next title — Divinity.
This year has seen the addition of a Yassified Withers, a Werewolf Shadowheart, and a muscly monk, alongside a ton of new classes, subclasses, and QOL improvements, and today's drop is no different.
Below you can see the ten additions you can dive into in Baldur's Gate 3 today:
- Spell Slot x 2 and Feats Every 2 Levels - Grants an additional two spell slots and allows you to gain a new feat every second level.
- Free Rain (Ritual Create/Destroy Water) - Makes Create/Destroy Water a ritual spell so it doesn't take up a spell slot.
- Infinite Illithid Wisdom Check - Illithid Wisdom Check can be used an unlimited number of times without requiring a long rest. Passive.
- NPC Redesign: Mystra (Vanilla Head) by AzazeL - New visuals for Gale's lover Mystra, the Goddess of Magic.
- Witch Elf (Custom Subrace) - Adds a new Witch Elf subrace. "Witch elves were a banished faction of high elves who devoted themselves to The Mistress of Darkness. This occultic subrace seeks to corrupt as many elves as possible."
- Leader Homebrew Class - Adds a custom homebrew class, the Leader. "A Leader's strength is defined by their unique journey to the forefront. Your command abilities flow from your personality and the trust you forge, but your motivations are entirely your own: a hunger for conquest, a need for radical change, or an unshakable conviction."
- Granny Rings Immersive - Scatters 353 Granny Rings around the lands of Baldur's Gate 3.
- Dynamic Extra Encounters - Adds dynamic encounters based on player actions to the game.
- Dice Roll Text Replacer - Replaces dice roll text, such as success/failure, with something more humorous. Apparently.
- White Ghost Set - Adds a white ghost armor and weapon set.
It's a nice set of additions after a long time out. While both the new class and subrace are great, the dynamic encounters seem to be a real game-changer.
