Boruto Officially Sets Up A Tailed Beast Power Up For Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto Uzumaki is the protagonist of the original Naruto series, written by Masashi Kishimoto, which began its serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on September 21, 1999, in issue #43. Since then, this story has gone on to become an absolute phenomenon all over the world and stands tall as one of the most popular pieces of media out there.
At the core of this franchise is Naruto Uzumaki, who is widely popular as one of the most beloved anime characters all over the world. In the Boruto series, which is a direct continuation of Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki stands tall as the Seventh Hokage, but right now, his circumstances aren't too good. As was confirmed in Boruto Chapter 77 on January 19, 2023, Naruto Uzumaki is now sealed away in the Dimension of Daikokuten, but with each passing arc in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, his return is getting closer. With that, a new power is being lined up for him. As was set up by Masashi Kishimoto himself, Naruto Uzumaki could still make use of a Tailed Beast power post-return, and we absolutely cannot wait for it.
Why Naruto Being Kurama's Jinchuriki Gave Him A Permanent 9-Tails Power Up
For the longest time, Naruto Uzumaki was the Jinchuriki of Kurama. This was confirmed to us in Naruto Chapter 1, all the way back in 1999, and Naruto's true Jinchuriki powers were only realized when his bond with Kurama was fully forged in Naruto Chapter 571 on February 13, 2012. Once the two forged a powerful bond, they could stand up to multiple Tailed Beasts at the same time and, more than that, fight threats like Obito Uchiha and Madara Uchiha. Naruto also upgraded his strength even further by receiving bits of chakra from all the other remaining Tailed Beasts and, at the same time, meeting the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, in Naruto Chapter 670, on March 26, 2014. Eventually, all these things made Naruto Uzumaki the God that we know him to be.

On February 19, 2021, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 55, Naruto officially lost a significant portion of his chakra after the death of Kurama. Most fans consider this point to be the moment where Naruto's Tailed Beast powers completely died. However, that isn't, strictly speaking, accurate. In the original lore of the Naruto series, it was officially confirmed by Masashi Kishimoto that Naruto and Kurama's power had started to assimilate. In fact, when the Fourth Hokage used the 8 Trigrams Seal on Naruto while making him a Jinchuriki, he ensured that small portions of Kurama's chakra were shaved off of him and were made to assimilate with Naruto's own.
"Normally, when a Jinchuriki's Biju is extracted, they die. But that doesn't apply to you. The Biju chakra simply vanishes. It might look to others like you're dead, but you're just in a temporary state of shock. Don't worry, you'll wake up soon. The price to pay for Baryon Mode is my life, not yours. I've got to go, but be really careful. You aren't gonna have superhuman strength anymore. So if you overdo it, you'll end up joining me soon. But, until that day comes, you be well, Naruto." — Kurama dies and leaves Naruto, Boruto Chapter #55
As such, the chakra that Naruto possesses right now contains Kurama's shaved chakra from multiple years, and this chakra has become Naruto's own. In a way, this is a major Tailed Beast upgrade for Naruto Uzumaki, which could come into play in Two Blue Vortex upon his return. It is important to note that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is playing with the concept of human Tailed Beasts quite a lot. As such, Kurama was reborn inside the body of Himawari, which ended up making her a Human Tailed Beast. Similarly, all the shaved-off chakra that was made possible due to Minato's 8 Trigrams Seal could create a Tailed Beast power-up for Naruto Uzumaki himself.

As to why we did not see it previously, upon the death of Kurama, the fact is that Naruto did not get into any combat situation at all. Even though he attempted to fight Code, Kawaki interrupted the battle and decided to take things from there. Naruto Uzumaki never got even a single chance to showcase what he could do in combat after losing Kurama, which means any power that he would have awakened remains hidden up until now.
Naruto Uzumaki's Increase In Strength Is Guaranteed Through Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Volume 8
It is also very interesting to note that Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto have already told us that Naruto Uzumaki is going to grow stronger in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex upon his return. In the latest Volume 8 release on June 4, 2026, it was officially confirmed that Sasuke Uchiha trained with Boruto Uzumaki and gained more strength. This was also quite evident in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #5, released on December 20, 2023, where Sasuke was seen injuring Code despite the latter being way stronger than Jigen, whom both Naruto and Sasuke together struggled against, despite having Six Paths Powers previously. This clearly suggests that Sasuke has ascended to a new level of strength, and, as is always the case, Naruto and Sasuke have to be relative in terms of power.

When Naruto returns, he will receive a significant boost in terms of power, which is a guarantee at this point, thanks to the latest Volume 8 revelation of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Keeping that in mind, we now have to figure out a way as to how Naruto would receive that power-up. This shaved-off chakra of Kurama assimilating into a mass of unique chakra for Naruto to utilize certainly stands as one pathway. It is also possible that all the shaved-off chakra created a mini version of Kurama inside Naruto. Something similar was seen in the Fourth Great Ninja War in Naruto Chapter 631, where the Yin and Yang versions were shown inside Minato and Naruto. With the real Kurama being inside Himawari, perhaps a smaller version could still be present inside Naruto, which could be created from the shaved-off chakra with the Eight Trigrams Seal. It could allow him to tap into the power of Kurama once again after five years long years.
Why Naruto Uzumaki Could Gain New Tailed Beast Powers
It is also possible for Naruto Uzumaki to gain a completely new Tailed Beast power, and this is thanks to the existence of Jura. As we know, Jura is the incarnation of the 10 Tails itself and one of the strongest characters to have ever lived. Given that Jura is a Tailed Beast, technically, he cannot die. As has been confirmed in the lore for the Naruto series, Tailed Beasts don't simply die; they reincarnate into one form or another. This is precisely why Kurama was able to return inside Himawari after his death by utilizing Baryon Mode in Boruto Chapter 55. The same should apply to Jura as well.
Even if Jura himself is killed, the 10 Tails will probably return in some form, and those on Earth will have to figure out some way to deal with it. In the history of the Naruto world, Hagoromo Otsutsuki dealt with this issue by becoming the Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails and, later, on his deathbed, splitting the chakra of the Ten Tails into nine Tailed Beasts. Perhaps Naruto Uzumaki is going to do something similar and, to curb the threat of the Ten Tails, become its Jinchuriki upon return, which would give him a major power buff and, at the same time, solve the problem of dealing with the Ten Tails once and for all.
