Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia is one of the best-selling manga of all time, which maintains its popularity even two years after its conclusion on August 5, 2024. My Hero Academia is a brilliant story following Izuku Midoriya, who intends to become a Hero just like All Might and ends up receiving the power of the Number One Hero of Japan.

Over the years, we have all enjoyed My Hero Academia to the fullest and loved to see Deku grow from a Quirkless boy to the man who eventually ended up mastering the powers of One For All, along with all the Vestige abilities. This is precisely why, when Deku lost his powers, it felt like a blow to many of the readers. The vast majority of fans who enjoyed My Hero Academia grew up alongside Deku through its decade-long run, and for him to lose his powers at the end of the series was certainly a big blow. Thankfully, Kohei Horikoshi set up a new ability for Izuku Midoriya, and that comes in the form of the armor that replicates the ability of One For All. This armor was briefly seen in My Hero Academia chapters 430 and 431, as well as in the latest OVA, which was released officially on May 2, 2026.

In the special One-Shot Chapter of My Hero Academia, which was released in the My Hero Academia Ultra Age on May 2, 2025, Kohei Horikoshi returned to primarily focus on the character of Eri. This one-shot was brought to life on May 2, 2026, by Studio Bones as a part of a special My Hero Academia release. In it, the latest hero rankings of Japan were finally revealed.

“I wanted to give you a special gift. The data from my fight against All For One opened up room for crazy possibilities. Technology has continued to evolve alongside Quirks. Take this to heart, kid. This too is a power you've earned, fair and square.” — All Might gifts Izuku Midoriya his Armor, My Hero Academia Chapter #430

Surprisingly, Izuku Midoriya, the protagonist of the series, was shown to have risen to the Number 4 Hero Rank. This was only made possible due to the Hero Armor he received at the end of My Hero Academia chapter 430, which was officially released on August 5, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #36-37. This hero armor was in development for multiple years. As explained by All Might himself, technology had grown drastically over the years following the conclusion of the Final War arc.

Using the armored All Might as the prototype, Deku's armor suit was improved upon drastically and made in such a way that it replicated the powers of One For All as well as the Vestiges, which was confirmed by Kohei Horikoshi himself. This new power of Izuku Midoriya has helped propel him to the Number 4 Hero rank in Japan, and that certainly sets up high expectations for the future as well.

Question: How does the armor that Deku received from Class A function?

Horikoshi: It tries to mimic various OFA abilities; for example, it has cable extensions that function like his ability, Black Whip. It also serves as a prototype where he can try to combine various abilities.

How Izuku Midoriya Recreated One For All After Becoming Quirkless

Izuku Midoriya Recreated One For All After Becoming Quirkless MY HERO ACADEMIA

With the power of his new armor, Izuku Midoriya ended up recreating the powers of One for All. As we all know, One for All had several unique abilities, with the basic one being just stockpiling great amounts of energy as well as utilizing it to boost strength and other physical attributes drastically. With its powers, All Might could create storms and change the weather effortlessly. Under Izuku Midoriya, One for All reached its full potential. Not only was he able to bring out the tremendous physical power from this quirk, but he also awakened all the vestige quirks, which then helped boost his overall strength dramatically. Izuku could control the powers of:

  • Black Whip
  • Danger Sense
  • Smoke Screen
  • Fa Jin
  • Gear Shift
  • Float

By the time of the Final War arc, all these abilities had been mastered by him. He could even combine various abilities to go beyond the 100% offered by One For All, making him an absolute monster, rivaling even All Might and Shigaraki Tomura in terms of overall strength.

What's even more surprising is that by the time of adulthood, and when he receives the new armor from All Might, Izuku Midoriya's powers are fully replicated by this armor. This means all the vestige abilities that he held can easily be replicated by it, as well as the combinations that come with it. Izuku Midoriya can still recreate the same power that he could generate with 100% One For All, or abilities that go even beyond. This explains why and how he was able to become the Number 4 Hero in Japan and why he still holds immense potential to grow even further right now.

Why My Hero Academia Will Make Deku The #1 Hero Soon

As things stand, Izuku Midoriya is the Number 4 Hero in Japan, but it is only a matter of time before he grows even further and comes for the position of Number 1 Hero. Right now, the only heroes who are ahead of Izuku Midoriya are Mt. Lady, Shoto Todoroki, and Mirio Togata. All these heroes are incredibly powerful, but if Izuku is at the same level he was in the Final War arc, then they should not stand a chance against him in combat.

Furthermore, it must also be remembered that it hasn't been long since Izuku became a Pro Hero again. As such, for him to climb to the Number 4 rank in such a short time suggests that his growth as a hero is nothing short of incredible. He will continue to grow, and in the next few years, he will officially become the Number 1 Hero in Japan. Perhaps Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the series, will do another one-shot at some point in the future, or simply give fans this revelation through some other means. In either case, we are eagerly waiting for more exciting information to expand the world of My Hero Academia even further.

For now, all we can say is Kohei Horikoshi is incredibly busy with his next manga project, which he began immediately after the conclusion of My Hero Academia. That said, we haven't heard much about this new project in almost a year now, which means no significant progress on it has been made yet, and the manga is not anywhere close to being released. Conversely, this increases the chances of there being another short My Hero Academia release by the author, and we hope it comes soon.

All the chapters of Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
