Nintendo players won't be left out of the fun anymore
The new Castlevania game will avoid the Switch curse
When Konami initially announced Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, prospective Nintendo Switch players were initially left with the short end of the stick. While it was announced that the game would be released on every other platform on Oct. 15, Konami noted that 'the Switch version would arrive later in 2026. Now Konami has some good news to share with Switch players.
The official Japanese Castlevania X account has announced that the Nintendo Switch version of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse now has a release date: Oct. 15. That means that, contrary to Konami's initial announcement, Switch players will be able to get their hands on the game at the same time as every other platform. Other official Konami social media accounts have since shared the news as well, meaning the Switch edition's new release date is for the global market.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was announced during the February 2026 State of Play. It is the first new Castlevania in the franchise in over a decade, with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 having been released way back in 2014. While Konami has released a number of remasters and collections in recent years, Castlevania fans have been eager for the series to return in full. Thanks to indie titles like 2017's Hollow Knight and this year's MIO: Memories in Orbit, Metroidvanias have seen a massive resurgence since Castlevania last had a new game. Belmont's Curse could not have been announced at a better time for the genre.
Developers Evil Empire (Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia) is working on Castlevania: Belmont's Curse with supervision from Motion Twin (Dead Cells). Dead Cells is especially considered one of the best indie Metroidvania's ever made, so the series is in good hands. The announcement trailer showed off the game's 2D action-platforming, which harkens back to some of the best Castlevania games of the past, especially Symphony of the Night and the Game Boy Advance titles.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse takes place two decades after Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. It follows Rose Belmont, the daughter of previous series protagonist Trevor Belmont, on a mission to save medieval Paris from a demonic invasion. Rose will wield "Vampire Killer," the iconic whip that has become synonymous with Castlevania.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse will be released on Oct. 15, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S
