According to a new analyst report, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has made almost $1 million from day-one DLCs. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launched last week alongside a total of nine separate DLCs, most of which cost around $10. These DLCs have been at the heart of one of Black Flag Resynced's first major controversies.

Released when day-one DLCs were first becoming all the rage, the original Assassin's Creed Black Flag did ship with some paid launch day add-ons. On its October 29, 2013 release day, Black Flag early adopters could purchase several ship cosmetic packs, and those who bought the game on PS3 and PS4 gained access to an exclusive DLC mission based around Assassin's Creed: Liberation's protagonist Aveline de Grandpre. Players could also purchase a handful of "time saver" DLCs, which revealed the locations of collectibles, in-game activities, and immediately unlocked multiplayer content typically locked behind progression.

On July 14, Alinea Analytics released a new report detailing the numbers behind Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's Steam launch. In its opening statement, Alinea's report states that "Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been a much-needed win for Ubisoft on Steam, selling 701K copies for $35M in gross revenue, plus almost $1M more from day-one DLC."

One of the most common complaints surrounding Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's launch has been the game's abundance of day-one DLCs, with many pointing out that it would cost over $80 to purchase all nine of the separate packs. While Black Flag Resynced has generally been met with a very positive reception from critics, with the game sitting at a Top Critic Average of 86 on OpenCritic, the initial reception on Steam was a tad more mixed, with many user reviews expressing their displeasure with the DLCs.

The day after launch, Ubisoft made an official statement regarding the negative reception to Black Flag Resynced's DLCs. That statement read, "The standard edition is the full, complete experience... The additional packs are optional extras for players who want them, never a requirement to enjoy or complete the game."

Despite this widespread negative reaction, it appears that Ubisoft has still made quite a bit of money from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's day-one DLC. According to Alinea Analytics' estimations, Ubisoft has made almost $1 million from these DLCs, with the best-selling one being the $5 Map Pack that reveals the locations of every collectible in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. According to Alinea, 6.34% of those who purchased Black Flag Resynced on Steam bought this DLC. On the other hand, none of Resynced's eight cosmetic packs had an attachment rate higher than 2.65%.

As Alinea's report points out, these day-one DLCs account for just 3% of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's total revenue via Steam, but it's still an extra $1 million for Ubisoft. Of course, this report is also only counting Black Flag Resynced's Steam sales statistics and contains no data for the console versions of the remake. That said, Ubisoft has confirmed that Black Flag Resynced has sold over 2 million copies across all platforms, so it's likely that Ubisoft has earned some extra cash from the DLCs available on PS5 and Xbox Series X as well.
