The Huge Game Of Thrones Overhaul For Crusader Kings 3 Just Got An Expansion
At TheGamer, you will often find her chatting to game developers, writers, and actors about their crafts. This includes a deep dive into Cyberpunk 2077's narrative, and a series on the making of the Fable trilogy.
She also follows industrial action and existential threats to its workers, particularly the use of generative AI. As part of this, she's explored how AI Darth Vader sets a dangerous precedent, and was one of the first reporters to look into generative AI dating companions.
If you're a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, you'll know we're not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to games to play. I mean, the quantity is there, but the quality certainly isn't, as the rights are continuously handed over to publishers who want to make dodgy mobile games rather than anything narrative-focused.
That's why so many of us flock to the A Game of Thrones overhaul for Crusader Kings. The third game's AGOT mod is getting even more attention now that House of the Dragon is back on our screens, as it lets us play as any of the rulers across Westeros, across various time periods.
Now, we have even more to play around with. Steam user Refresco has created a Fire & Blood expansion for Crusader Kings 3, covering the lives of two key Targaryen rulers. The expansion is centred around Aegon I and Jaehaerys I, allowing players to control how the Targaryens conquered Westeros and how that rule was solidified.
This Expansion For Crusader Kings 3 AGOT Adds 400 Events Across Two Rulers
You can already play as both Aegon and Jaehaerys in the AGOT overhaul (at least with the set-up I have, which admittedly includes a few other expansions), but this mod focuses on them in much more detail, adding over 400 scripted events across both of the campaigns.
For those of you who have read Fire & Blood, the events will be familiar to you.
Aegon I Events
- The Landing
- The founding of the capital
- The Burning of Harrenhal
- The Last Storm
- The Field of Fire
- The Submission of Oldtown
- The First Dornish War
- The death of Queen Rhaenys
- The Dragon’s Wroth
- The Peace with Dorne
Jaehaerys I Events
- The regency
- Rogar Baratheon’s defiance
- Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s marriage
- The Doctrine of Exceptionalism
- The births and deaths of the royal children
- Aerea Targaryen and Balerion
- Rhaena Targaryen on Dragonstone
- Androw Farman’s poisonings
- The theft of the three dragon eggs
- The construction of the Dragonpit
- The Shivers
As ever, players can make these canon events go down very differently, if they wish. Perhaps Aegon and his wives manage to bring Dorne into the Seven Kingdoms much earlier? Maybe they broker peace with them? Or, maybe Jaehaerys is actually as good a father as he was a king?
Anyway, that's free to download and play around with now. More content is coming in the future, adding material for the other rulers around during the same time period, but this is more than enough to get you going.
