Blizzard has released the patch notes for the next Diablo 4 Season 14 update, which brings the game up to build 3.1.1. While the patch itself has yet to be released, Diablo 4 fans have been quick to express their frustration with the planned changes Blizzard has announced.

Diablo 4 Season 14 launched on June 30, named the Season of Death Awakening. As early as the PTR, Blizzard received plenty of negative feedback on Diablo 4 Season 14, leaving some players seriously worried. The seasonal mechanic itself has faced plenty of criticism for not necessarily affecting the wider game, but rather, just the specific seasonal activities that players take part in. Unfortunately, the upcoming Diablo 4 update has done very little to address the concerns.

Diablo 4 Season 14's First Big Patch Focuses Largely on Bug Fixes

The upcoming patch notes for Diablo 4 update 3.1.1 were released on the Blizzard website. Given that the update has taken two weeks since the launch of Diablo 4 Season 14 to come to fruition, the number of actual gameplay changes is pretty minimal. Important things of note include the increased chance of naturally dropped Mythics being an Iconic Mythic, and a fix for an issue that was preventing certain sources of Uniques from dropping as Mythic. Given the noted drop of Mythics appearing as loot in Diablo 4 Season 14, it appears this may have been unintentional on Blizzard's behalf. However, the update is largely focused on smaller bug fixes, so those hoping for extensive early-season rebalances will be left disappointed here.

Fans haven't been shy in their feelings about the upcoming update. The Reddit thread about Diablo 4 Season 14's first significant update included some brutal feedback for Blizzard, with one player calling it "embarrassing to wait 2 weeks for that." Another user claimed that "literally EVERYTHING in there should have been a day 2 hotfix," with many writing off Season 14 entirely on the back of the small-scale changes here. The update is set to go live on July 14, 2026, so there are still a few days to go until Diablo 4 patch 3.1.1.

Much of the frustration stems from the fact that Diablo 4 Season 14 has already faced harsh feedback from many players, and it hasn't quite lived up to expectations when compared to previous seasons of late. The assumption, then, was that Blizzard would be quick to make needed adjustments to some of the less favorable changes in Diablo 4 Season 14, and ensure that the remainder of the season would be a significant improvement. At the moment, the sentiment is less than positive, but hopefully that changes when the patch itself goes live.

Despite a stumble with Season 14, Diablo 4 is in an extremely strong place at the moment. The launch of the Lord of Hatred expansion last season ensured that Diablo 4 set a new player count on Steam almost three years after its initial release, an impressive feat, even for a live-service title. Rumors continue to rumble about the possibility of a Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 release in the future, too, but those remain whispers at the moment.
