Dragon Ball: 8 Strongest Super Saiyan 2 Users, Ranked

The real genius of the Cell Saga in Dragon Ball Z is rooted in just how much effort the Saiyans put into surpassing the original Super Saiyan transformation. Goku and Vegeta both come to the realization that SSJ1 will not be enough to stop the Androids, beginning a race to evolve Super Saiyan to its full power. Gohan finally unlocking Super Saiyan 2 when Android 16 dies is one of the greatest transformations in anime history, and the form still gets occasional use in Dragon Ball Super.
Super Saiyan 2 has since been surpassed by Dragon Ball Super’s God forms, but it remains a useful and powerful transformation – especially for Saiyans who haven't become Gods. The strongest Super Saiyan 2 users can keep up with Dragon Ball’s strongest God forms, proving that a transformation is only as powerful as its user. In the right hands, Super Saiyan 2 can go head-to-head with the greatest forms in all of Dragon Ball.
8 Gohan Hasn't Used Super Saiyan 2 Since Dragon Ball Z

Thanks to his Beast transformation from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan Beast is currently the most powerful Z-Fighter and the second-strongest mortal in the multiverse after Black Frieza. When it comes to using Super Saiyan 2 specifically, however, the Hybrid Saiyan has fallen off big time. Despite being Gohan's signature form for the Cell Games and most of the Majin Buu Saga, Gohan has not turned SSJ2 since the end of Dragon Ball Z.
Every time Gohan needs to transform in Dragon Ball Super, he either uses regular Super Saiyan or his Ultimate form, both of which have been fully replaced by Beast. Considering how much Gohan struggles to stay in shape (to the point he almost loses Super Saiyan in Resurrection F), it's possible he may not even be able to turn into a Super Saiyan 2 anymore. Now that Gohan has access to Beast, though, he'll never need to use SSJ2 again (assuming he actually keeps up with his training this time around, of course).
7 Cabba is the Weakest Super Saiyan 2 in Dragon Ball Super
As far as Super Saiyan 2s who actually appear in Dragon Ball Super go, Cabba is far and away the weakest. Cabba doesn't even unlock SSJ2 in the Dragon Ball Super manga, getting eliminated from the Tournament of Power before he can really do anything of note. The anime at least gives Cabba something of a win when he breaks his limits to trigger Super Saiyan 2 while fighting Monna.
While Super Saiyan 2 Cabba is powerful enough to defeat Monna, he can't really compete with the rest of Universe 6. Cabba is outclassed by both Caulifla and Kale, and ultimately gets himself eliminated by Golden Frieza. The only thing stopping Cabba being weaker than Gohan in Super Saiyan 2 is the fact the latter never bothered using SSJ2 in Dragon Ball Super.
6 Caulifla Easily Unlocked Super Saiyan 2 During the Tournament of Power
Just like Cabba, Caulifla never unlocks Super Saiyan 2 in the manga's Tournament of Power. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, however, Goku takes a liking to Caulifla and starts coaching her on how to use her full power. While training with Goku, Caulifla unlocks both Super Saiyan Grade 3 and Super Saiyan 2. Caulifla actually unlocks SSJ2 faster and easier than any other character in the series.
Super Saiyan 2 Caulifla is strong enough to battle Super Saiyan God in the anime, albeit with help from Legendary Super Saiyan Kale (in a suppressed state). In the end, not even teaming up with Kale is enough for Caulifla to get an edge over one of Goku's God forms. The two wind up fusing into Kefla just to keep the battle going. Otherwise, Goku would have eliminated both fighters.
5 Goku Uses Super Saiyan 2 All the Time in Dragon Ball Super
Goku surpassed Super Saiyan 2 during the Majin Buu Saga, but he still finds reasons to use the transformation during Dragon Ball Super. Super Saiyan 2 is one of Goku's ways to gauge just how much power to use against his opponents now that he's become a living God. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Goku uses Super Saiyan 2 multiple times, including in his first battle against Goku Black.
Now that Goku has access to Ultra Instinct, however, he's starting to phase Super Saiyan 2 out. True Ultra Instinct also allows Goku to stack his God forms on top of UI, giving him massive power boosts while still being able to pull off Ultra Instinct's Angelic reflexes. When Goku really needs to take his enemies seriously these days, he'll immediately drop SSJ2 for Super Saiyan Blue or Ultra Instinct.
4 Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta Briefly Surpassed Super Saiyan 3 Goku
Vegeta is overflowing with a level of power that would make Goku blush. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Vegeta experiences one of the craziest rage boosts in the series when Beerus slaps Bulma. Super Saiyan 2 Enraged Vegeta officially surpasses Super Saiyan 3 Goku, and not by an insignificant degree. Roshi confirms that SSJ2 Vegeta is much stronger than SSJ3 Goku.
Not only that, Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta makes Beerus bleed, while landing multiple hits on the God of Destruction – something not even Super Saiyan 3 Goku could pull off. Unlike Goku, Vegeta doesn't use Super Saiyan 2 as often in Dragon Ball Super, instead sticking to Super Saiyan Blue.
3 Future Trunks Fully Mastered Super Saiyan 2 in His Timeline
After returning home to his real timeline in Dragon Ball Z, Future Trunks goes through his own version of the Majin Buu Saga. When the Supreme Kai, Shin, dies in the battle against Babidi and Dabura, Future Trunks unlocks Super Saiyan 2, giving him more than enough power to kill Dabura before Babidi can hatch Majin Buu. Following this, Trunks starts training non-stop to fully master SSJ2, much like how Goku and Gohan mastered Super Saiyan 1 for the Cell Games.
By the time Goku Black starts terrorizing his timeline, Future Trunks has achieved an extremely powerful version of Super Saiyan 2 that's just as strong as Goku's version of Super Saiyan 3. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Goku has to turn Super Saiyan God just to knock Super Saiyan 2 Future Trunks out. Full Power Super Saiyan 2 remains Future Trunks' strongest form in the manga, whereas he unlocks Super Saiyan Rage in the Dragon Ball Super anine, which is a hybrid form that blends SSJ2 and Super Saiyan Blue together.
2 Kefla is the Only Canon Legendary Super Saiyan 2 in Dragon Ball
Although Kefla is only as strong as Ultimate Gohan in the Dragon Ball Super manga, she's much more powerful in the Dragon Ball Super anime thanks to Caulifla unlocking Super Saiyan 2 earlier in the Tournament of Power. This also makes Kefla the only character capable of using Legendary Super Saiyan 2 in the series' canon timeline.
Legendary Super Saiyan 2 Kefla is an extremely strong opponent, and could have swept the entire Tournament of Power (except Jiren) had she been able to eliminate Goku. Kefla is so strong, in fact, Goku's body taps into Ultra Instinct Sign for a second time just to fight her off. Even then, Goku can't brute force Kefla into defeat, instead using his skills and martial arts knowledge to ring her out of the ToP before she can do the same to him.
1 The Crimson-Masked Saiyan is a Version of Goku Black Who Unlocked Super Saiyan Rosé 2
In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Fu travels to an alternate timeline of Dragon Ball Super shortly before the final battle in the Goku Black Saga. Warning him of his upcoming death, Fu convinced Goku Black to abandon Zamasu and begin traveling the multiverse instead. Equipped with a Time Breaker Mask and the desire to kill as many Gokus as possible, Goku Black becomes the Crimson-Masked Saiyan, using his newfound power to murder 99 versions of Goku.
While battling Xeno Bardock – the strongest variant of Bardock in the multiverse – the Crimson-Masked Saiyan awakens Super Saiyan Rosé 2, the only version of Super Saiyan 2 that uses God Ki. Super Saiyan Rosé 2 Goku Black is an absolute beast of a warrior, who only grows stronger over the course of the New Space-Time War Saga. Not even LSSJ2 Kefla would be able to stop the Crimson-Masked Saiyan.
