Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Developer Reportedly "Evasive" When Asked About A Sequel
George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends.
Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4.
When asked about the possibility of a sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot at a Japan Expo conference, CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama was reportedly "evasive" and didn't confirm or deny it.
With Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero giving anyone who wants a DBZ battle simulator their dream game and Xenoverse 3 looking set to give the online crowd plenty to talk about for the next decade, you might think that Shenron has granted every fan's wish. That's not quite the case, though, as Dragon Ball RPGs have pretty much stopped with Kakarot.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is one of the stand-out games in the whole franchise, lovingly retelling and expanding on the manga and select stories from the anime. That being said, Kakarot notably left a lot of Dragon Ball Super (as well as GT) out of the mix, which has left many hoping for a sequel that looked unlikely to happen. Well, you might not want to count it out entirely just yet.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Developer Was "Evasive" When Asked About A Sequel
That's Not A No!
Kakarot developer CyberConnect2 has had a pretty big presence at this year's Japan Expo, with multiple panels on a variety of subjects. One such subject was the development of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which Twitter user DBZcom attended and confirmed was being hosted by studio CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama.
During that panel, Matsuyama was reportedly asked about the possibility of a sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Considering CyberConnect2 has previously made it sound like it was moving away from licensed titles for a while to focus on its own projects, it's quite a surprise that Matsuyama didn't entirely shut the idea down.
According to DBZcom, Matsuyama remained "very evasive" when asked about whether Kakarot 2 could ever happen, "neither saying yes or no". The only concrete thing that Matsuyama said is that the team is "working hard" on its licensed anime projects, which could just be a reference to hack//Z.E.R.O. since that's what it's known to be working on currently.
For reference, CC2 also developed the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series and Demon Slayer's Hinokami Chronicles games. It's basically the GOAT of the genre.
While Matsuyama didn't confirm a sequel to Kakarot by any stretch of the imagination and could just be avoiding disappointing the crowd, CC2 has been rather open about its plans in the past. Not denying that Kakarot 2 could happen in the future is about as much hope as we're likely to get for a sequel to one of the franchise's best games.
