After more than a year of waiting, A-1 Pictures finally announced a new Solo Leveling project. Prior to the announcement, fans were certain that the studio would likely make a third season that would cover the next arcs in the story, but it seems that A-1 Pictures has other plans.
The next project is called Solo Leveling: Beyond The System. It will not be a regular anime season, but rather a movie. According to early reports, the movie will be released in Japan in 2027. An exact release date has not been shared yet, but that doesn't mean that fans cannot be hyped for the project.
What Arcs Will Solo Leveling: Beyond The System Cover?
Solo Leveling: Beyond The System is a direct sequel to the second season of the anime, meaning it will cover the arcs that come afterward. There are still a lot of arcs that the project can cover, but based on the title of the movie, it will adapt two arcs—Ahjin Guild Arc and Double Dungeon Arc.
The Ahjin Guild arc is not as action-packed as some of the previous ones, but it makes up for it with the immense drama and tension. In the arc, Jinwoo forms the Ahjin Guild and starts tackling new challenges, mostly on his own. When the Knights Guild approaches him, he accepts their offer and decides to help them. While Jinwoo is busy helping the guild, his sister gets caught in the middle of an Orc invasion. So, Jinwoo has to leave the Knights Guild and go after his sister. One thing is for certain: the Ahjin Guild arc will keep fans on the edge of their seats. However, the main attraction of Solo Leveling: Beyond The System will be the Double Dungeon arc.
Solo Leveling Beyond The System Will Reveal The Truth About Sung Jinwoo's Mysterious Powers
Ever since Sung Jinwoo obtained his powers, fans have wondered why he was chosen to be the Player and what the System is. Thankfully, the wait will end once the movie comes out. The title of the movie "Beyond The System" makes it quite clear that it will reveal many details related to the System. In the Double Dungeon arc, Jinwoo will go to Cartenon Temple, the place where it all began for Jinwoo. Normally, the place would be inaccessible, but the hero received the key after hitting level 100.
Upon reaching the Cartenon Temple, Jinwoo met Kandiaru, the Architect of the System. Jinwoo had many questions for him, but Kandiaru wasn't going to tell the hero everything. So, he offered him a proposal—beat all the statues to earn the chance to learn about the System. So, Jinwoo had to fight the very statues who had nearly killed him during the first visit. As expected, things were different this time around. Instead of running around scared, Jinwoo absolutely obliterated the statues. Even when the God statue entered the fray, the result wasn't different.
Once all of them were beaten, the Architect entered the fight. He set up another challenge, and this time, he asked Jinwoo to beat him. The Architect set up a 10-minute timer and informed Jinwoo that failure to beat him within the allotted time would result in the forfeiture of the latter's life. As expected, the Architect was a cut above the statues, and he made Jinwoo work hard. In fact, the hero came dangerously close to dying and only survived due to his quick thinking and reflexes. After starting on the back foot, Jinwoo slowly began to take control and ultimately surpassed Kandiaru. Subsequently, he took down the Architect with a couple of minutes left on the clock.

After being beaten, Kandiaru puts Jinwoo in a suspended state. The former was hoping that the Shadow Monarch would take over Jinwoo's body and be reborn again. However, the Shadow Monarch had no intention of being reborn. Instead, he entrusted all the remainder of his power to Jinwoo. The Architect was not pleased with the Shadow Monarch's actions, and he tried to stop him, but the latter was two steps ahead. He had locked Kandiaru out of the System, preventing him from interfering with the process.
Aside from the focus on Jinwoo and the Architect, the movie will also give more screen time to other interesting characters, like Cha Hae-In, Choi Jong-In, and Baek Yoonho. Many fans have complained about the lack of screen time for the side characters, but thankfully, Solo Leveling: Beyond The System will fix it.
Is A-1 Pictures Not Making Solo Leveling Season 3?
Following the movie's announcement, there have been considerable murmurs among the fans about the future of the franchise. For the longest time, fans had believed that A-1 Pictures would be busy making the third season of Solo Leveling, but now they've been proven wrong. However, the decision to make a new movie instead of a regular anime season was likely made a long time ago.
The studio was likely motivated and, to some extent, swayed by the success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. While it's unlikely that Solo Leveling: Beyond The System will hit similar numbers, there is no denying that the movie will make significant profit. Depending on the success of the new Solo Leveling movie, A-1 Pictures will decide whether to make another movie or continue producing regular shows.
Regardless of the movie's earnings, there is no doubt that there will be a third season of Solo Leveling. As previously stated, there are still many arcs left, and it's unreasonable to assume that all of them will be adapted into movies. Now the question is, when will Solo Leveling Season 3 be released?
The System Uses Me, and I Use the System. —Sung Jinwoo
Considering Beyond The System will release sometime in 2027, it's likely that the third season of Solo Leveling will air in late 2028 or early 2029. Fans are aware that it takes a lot of time to create a top-quality production, so they cannot expect the project to be released before 2028.
After the release of the third season, it is possible that the final battle between Sung Jinwoo and his enemies will be covered in a movie. However, this is just an assumption based on how other popular anime series are also leaning towards making movies. The best example is obviously Demon Slayer. The series is releasing a trilogy to cover the entirety of the Infinity Castle arc, and as expected, they have made a significant amount of money. So, it is highly unlikely that Solo Leveling: Beyond The System will be the final movie in the franchise.
