It's been almost five years since the release of Tale of Arise, which was the last mainline game in the Tales series to launch. We know that games take a pretty long time to make these days, but given that there's still absolutely no sign of a new Tales game being announced in the near future, we're going to have been waiting an abnormal amount of time when the next game does drop.

Bandai Namco has been doing its best to try and keep Tales relevant while work on the next game progresses, having remastered a series of classic Tales games from across its entire history, but they're still not that much of a substitute for the Tales fans that have already seen and played them before.

Even Tales' Producer Admits We've Been Waiting Too Long For A New Game

Thankfully, Bandai Namco is fully aware that it's been a long time since the last new Tales game, as in an interview with Famitsu (translated by Automaton), general producer Yusuke Tomizawa essentially apologized to fans that have been waiting.

"The bar has risen when it comes to the scale of development and other factors, and to be honest, we’ve kept players waiting for quite long," says Tomizawa. "While we haven’t been able to share concrete information yet, we are continuing to work on it while thinking of the series’ future."

Tomizawa says that Bandai Namco is fully aware of how "absolutely essential" it is for new Tales games to be made that live up to fan expectation if it wants the IP to remain strong. It's all good signs from Bandai, and it sounds like fans will just have to be a bit more patient before we see a new Tales, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait given how good Tales of Arise was.
