The Pokémon Company outdid itself this time. Recent leaks purporting to show much of the upcoming Pokémon 30th anniversary set reveal a collection of straight-up bangers. Even the 30 different Pikachu contained in the set are going to be head-turners.

The set, which comprises over 130 cards, was always destined to be a popular release: It recreates many of the franchise's most iconic cards. What's got people excited right now isn't a shiny new Base Set Charizard. The clamor is all about the new cards.

What Pokémon are in the 30th anniversary set?

So far, the list includes special illustration cards for monsters like Sylveon, Gengar, Jirachi, Lugia, Tyranitar, Uxie, Salamence, Delcatty, Sneasel, Scizor, Alolan Exeggutor, Moltres, Lapras, Articuno, all three versions of Meowth, Zapdos, Toxtricity, Morpeko, Drifloon, Zorua, Maushold, Lycanroc, Chandelure, and Eevee. That's in addition to the already known inclusion of series stalwarts like Pikachu, Charizard, Mew and Mewtwo. There's also a Cresselia card split into two.

Every 'chu appears to be drawn by a different artist. There's a fat Pikachu, a sleeping Pikachu, a surfing Pikachu, a winking Pikachu, a Pikachu powering up, at least two Pikachu gorging themselves, and a wide variety of Pikachu frolicking in the grass. Pikachu artists appear to include folks like Shinji Kanda, Okachee, and Atsuko Nishida.

Are the 30th anniversary set leaks legit?

We know that TPC has already begun printing the set, and that cards like the Future Rare Mew and Mewtwo are already out in the wild. The pictures also match the general shape and design of booklets contained in products like the Elite Trainer Box. A decent chunk of the cards in the leak were also shown in TPC's set reveal trailer.

The artwork also gives us a few clues. The three Meowth, for example, all have a geometric layout characteristic of known Pokémon TCG artists like Okubo. That trio also captures the set's wider day and night theme, as each card is set during a different time of day.

The Pokémon included in this leak seem plausible. It's not just the usual suspects, like legendaries and starters, nor is it solely overexposed monsters like Lucario. Heck, there are even trainer cards here. Platforms like TCGPlayer have already begun listing some of the cards onto their marketplaces. So far, the consensus seems to be that this set is so good, it's going to be impossible to find.

"The set is going to be brutal," one Redditor opined in a post containing pictures of the leak. "Either they print it into oblivion and kill the resale market for a lot of the reprinted cards, or they don’t and it absolutely fucks the ability for normal people to buy cards to a point of no return."

"After seeing the leaks over the last few days I'm now considering skipping it totally, or opening it casually," another wrote. "Stuff is going to be way, way too expensive."

If GameStop or general TCG marketplaces are anything to go by, these fans are on the money. Prices before the release of any set are always high, but even within that context, we're seeing incredible markups. A 30th anniversary ETB pre-order, as of this writing, has a market price of $239. With a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49.99, the going rate for one of the most desirable box is 378% over MSRP.

In short: Anyone who wants this set better start saving now. The release was already hyped, but the apparent leaks are pushing the sentiment into overdrive.
