Michelin adds 19 Ford electric vans to UK fleet

Michelin has added 19 Ford electric vans to its UK Connected Solutions Division fleet, taking the share of battery-electric vehicles to almost two-thirds. The deployment includes three E-Transit Custom vans and 16 E-Transit Courier models, which replace diesel-powered vehicles.

The latest additions bring the number of battery-electric vehicles in Michelin’s operational fleet to 36 out of 56 vehicles. According to Michelin, the expanded electric fleet is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 79.5 tonnes. The company plans to continue replacing diesel models over the next year as part of its target to operate a fully electric fleet by 2030.

“Michelin is committed to a sustainable future, and the use of telematics data has supported this journey for several years,” said Andrew French, B2B Sales Director at Michelin UK & Ireland. “Michelin Connected Fleet technology has allowed us to improve road safety and driving style through measurement of harsh braking and acceleration, reducing accidents and helping us maximise our fleet utilisation.”

The company organised a training event in Stoke-on-Trent to familiarise drivers with the new vehicles, onboard systems and charging procedures. The programme also focused on techniques for maximising driving range through more efficient driving styles.

Michelin selected the Ford electric vans following road tests carried out by its operational teams. The vehicles are fitted with either Michelin Agilis 3 summer tyres or Michelin Agilis CrossClimate all-season tyres. Michelin says the Agilis 3 offers improved rolling resistance compared to its predecessor, helping to increase vehicle efficiency and range, while the Agilis CrossClimate provides year-round performance and carries 3PMSF certification for traction on snow and other challenging surfaces.
