Players have had just seven days to enjoy Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, and talk of DLC is already starting. The devs have notions about how they'd like to carry on Edward's story and the world of the Caribbean, but don't expect to see a redux of the Freedom Cry expansion just yet.
"I know some folks on the team have DLC ideas," Richard Knight, game director on Assassin's Creed Black Resynced, tells JorRaptor. "We need to balance those out with our future, and then updating the core game."
Knight calls Edward "our focus" and the "heart and soul of the original game," and Ubisoft is keeping that aspect at the forefront. "Maybe there could be more to tell there too," he comments.
You'd think Freedom Cry, the spin-off DLC from Black Flag, would be a natural evolution for Resynced. But since the protagonist and setting differ, focusing on Adéwalé in Saint-Domingue marks a departure from Edward.
"I can't really say anything as to a Freedom Cry," he adds. "We've got our hands full with this game right now. Freedom Cry, it's not a small thing either."
He mentions the devs are "still figuring out" what to prioritize at the minute, since there are all the post-launch fires to put out, and whatever additional plans are already in place for the coming months.
Assassin's Creed games are always among the bigger releases in any given year, and Black Flag Resynced is one of the more hyped in recent memory. The original's a fan-favorite that still holds up, and getting to hop back out on the seven seas is something plenty of us are jumping at. Freedom Cry would be an added bonus, and Knight understands the yearning for it.
"It's a game we remember," he says. "It needs some modernization work. These are just things we consider; I really don't know the future beyond supporting Black Flag Resynced."
