Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Cancels Community Treasure Hunt After Fan Finds It By Accident
Joshua is considered an expert in soulslikes, horror, JRPGs and everything Final Fantasy, having written extensive coverage for massively popular online titles like Final Fantasy 14.
Earlier this month, the Assassin’s Creed Twitter account revealed that the game would be holding a series of community treasure hunts to celebrate the release of Black Flag Resynced. Each of these chests can be found in-game and would include a reward and Ubisoft would drop a teaser each Friday for three weeks, so players can try to find them together.
Unfortunately, this week’s treasure hunt has already been scrapped. It seems as though Ubisoft may have underestimated just how good Assassin’s Creed players are at sniffing out rewards, as this week’s treasure hunt was completely ruined by a fan that found the chest by complete accident.
Assassin’s Creed Fan Runs Treasure Hunt By Pure Chance
The fan in question was a Reddit user called Holliday (shared by Twitter user PotatoSynth), who explains that they were simply combing the ocean for unmarked chests, and were just swimming around to see if they got lucky.
They decided to pick a spot on the map that intrigued them enough, dived into the ocean, and immediately spotted the chest. They explain that they were briefly shaking with excitement having discovered something so rare that possibly nobody else had at the time.
What they found was the Explorer Outfit, a unique outfit for Kenway that many thought had been cut from the game as it was earned via a limited-time community challenge in the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.
Instead, it was actually lurking in a chest at the bottom of the ocean, with Ubisoft waiting to drop a hint for its location. Unfortunately, Holliday’s premature discovery just straight up ruined the whole treasure hunt, though Ubisoft was admittedly quite impressed by the entire debacle rather than upset or irritated. Someone at Ubisoft is seething though, I guarantee it.
Now, maybe since it doesn’t have to mess about with community treasure hunts this week, Ubisoft could find the time to give Ubisoft Barcelona the fair severance pay that it’s been striking for.
