Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit - 9 Best Beginner Tips
Some of the games and genres that Meg is an expert in include RPGs, point-and-clicks, puzzle games, and life sims. She has a particular fondness for Yakuza/Like a Dragon and Final Fantasy, especially Final Fantasy 14 (for which she used to run a weekly community column).
Whether you played the original Cozy Grove or Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit is your first visit to an island with ghostly bears, there are always a few things that are worth knowing before you start playing, or some handy tips to bear in mind to make your island life as efficient as possible.
We've compiled a list of our top tips to help you get started in Camp Spirit to avoid some of the pitfalls we found ourselves in, like having to re-shuffle all our decorations to properly take advantage of all the different themed items.
Plan Out Your Decoration, Pet, And Plant Placement
Every decoration has different themes or labels, which you can view in the item details. It might be rustic or cozy, or labelled as a lamp. This is important to take notice of as pets, plants, and trees all have their own preferences when it comes to likes and dislikes.
You want to max out the gauge (the three leaves) for pets, plants, and trees, as this means you'll get a better harvest from them. You want to be particular about where you place things.
For example, place all your rustic decorations together, and that's where you also place your pet that loves rustic items, while ensuring anything that doesn't like rustic-themed items can be kept away from that area.
Items Sell For More After They're Processed
Don't just sell your raw items to earn some coins, process them first! Either burn them at Flamey, use the recycling machine, or cook or craft the items into other products before you sell them.
For example, one Pecan sells for 80 old coins. Burn it into Toasted Nut Flour, and it sells for 100 old coins. Craft three Toasted Nut Flour into a Cake Display Tower for 721 coins. Keep building on those profits!
The more complex recipes don't seem to have as good a return on investment necessarily, so be careful you're not crafting your profits away.
Take The Time To Forage
While it might not seem that important at first, you really should forage everything. And I mean, everything. Grass piles, dirt mounds, fish, bugs, fruit, flowers, whatever you can harvest and forage - take it all. You might not need it straight away, but you will soon.
You'll need plenty of resources for crafting and cooking, and you'll also be able to process the items you forage into other items to make some money. Keep rarer items in your storage for when you need them most.
Prioritise Expanding Your Storage Space
So on that note of foraging for absolutely everything, you're going to need places to put it. Expanding your storage should be a priority.
Now, the first bag upgrade or two from Mr Kit isn't too bad, but as you need to pay for his stock upgrade and pay for the bag upgrade after, this starts to get pretty steep. Upgrade your tent with Flamey instead when you can, as this works out cheaper for more slots.
Cooking And Crafting Uses Items From Your Storage Too
Don't fret about running back and forth from your tent storage for items you need, as when crafting or cooking, the game will also use any items in your storage. Similarly, currency types like gems can be stored in your tent.
The only items you really need in your backpack are your tools and items you may need on hand to throw to imps or pets.
Visit The Store Every Day
The store sells items that you might struggle to get elsewhere on any given day. Sure, you can grow your own fruits, but maybe you're still waiting for the next harvest, and you need them for a recipe. Undoubtedly, you're going to need Salt, and lots of it.
Visit Mr Kit's store every day (and other merchants that appear) and snap up the most coveted items so you can store them for when you need them.
Be sure to check in after upgrading Mr Kit's stores to purchase his new items, too.
Some Events And Items Are Seasonal-Specific
Camp Spirit utilises the seasons well, so critters and fish are seasonal specific, but there are also events, features, and other collectables that are season-specific too. Be sure to make the most of the seasons so you don't miss out.
For example, you can only make Bone Maps during the Summertide Faire event, which runs from July 2-29 each year.
Don't Neglect Tallow's Collection
Tallow's collection might seem like a check-box task for completionists, but it's a fantastic way to get rewards, from money to new recipes, and other items. When you get an item that you have yet to donate to Tallow, you really should donate it as a priority.
For example, when it comes to donating meals, Tallow will give you new recipes each time you donate something new! It's a great way to keep new rewards and recipes coming. It's also a great way to earn a lot of old coins.
If You Really Want To, You Can Get Around The Time-Gated Aspect
It can be frustrating when you want to keep playing for hours and hours, only to realise you can't progress the storyline anymore until the next day. You can "time-travel", which is changing your console or device's time and date manually to trick the game into thinking that time has passed.
There is a risk of save file corruption, so do this at your own risk.
