Black Clover has stood as a beloved manga series for years, pulling in many fans of the magical action genre. Black Clover's main power system is, of course, magic, and thanks to that, Yuki Tabata, the creator of the series, has revealed diverse and unique magic types to us. Over the years, we have been introduced to quite a few overpowered magics, some of which include Soul Magic, Dark Magic, and Light Magic.

However, when it comes to the strongest magic of them all, it's undeniable that, by the end of the story, that is Anti-Magic, the power used by Asta, a boy born with no mana. While Lucius believed Asta's powers were a flaw, it proved to be the perfect counter to him and to every other character out there who uses mana. This underestimated power is the ultimate ability in the Black Clover story that made Asta the new Wizard King.

Black Clover’s Strongest Magic Type Is Anti-Magic

Black Clover is a story written and illustrated by Japanese mangaka Yuki Tabata. The story made its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 on February 16, 2015, and immediately, in the first chapter, we were introduced to the power system of the story, which is magic. In the world of Black Clover, magic is indispensable. Almost every person is born with mana, and the use of magic can be as mundane as it can be great and powerful.

As such, in the story of Black Clover, Tabata showcased quite a wide array of magic types. Some magic types are more common, such as Fire Magic or Water Magic, while others are rarer and sought after, like Soul or Time Magic. Due to an abundance of magic types and subtypes out there, it is no surprise to know that there was always a big debate about which magic is the very strongest of them all. Previously, fans may have chosen Soul Magic or Time Magic as the best of them all, but the truth is that the strongest magic is that of Asta — Anti Magic.

"By rights, no living thing should ever be born without magic power. You are the world's 'flaw.' For the sake of a just future, flaws must be eliminated." — Lucius About Asta

For a long time in the story, Asta’s lack of Mana made him a laughing stock. But that is what allowed him to be chosen by the black five-leaf grimoire, which granted him access to Anti-Magic. Anti-Magic, as the name implies, is a power that can counter magic in Black Clover. Anti Magic is a form of energy that opposes Mana. Any kind of mana-based ability that comes in contact with it can be nullified. Anti Magic stems from Liebe, a low-ranking devil of the Black Clover world, also born without mana. His rage is what eventually mutated to Anti Magic, and through him being trapped in the grimoire, Asta can access these powers as well.

To wield Anti Magic to its full potential, Asta makes use of an Anti Magic weapon. By fusing with Liebe, Asta was able to take Anti Magic to the max and coat himself with it to unleash even more damage through his Demon Form. What proves this magic to be the very best is the battle against Lucius, where Asta was able to slash through his time abilities, as well as his Soul Magic, which had granted him unbeatable regeneration and abilities otherwise too overpowered to stop or counter. Simply put, Anti-Magic is the perfect counter to all, and to take it on, one must either outpace and exhaust its user or focus on physical attacks instead.

Why Asta And Liebe Are The Only Ones Able To Use Anti Magic

Asta Liebe Only Users Anti Magic black clover

Anti Magic is the most unique of powers of all, and only a select few can actually make use of it. In the world of Black Clover, any normal person can be born with Mana, but for Asta, things were different. Asta was born without Mana, and that is due to very specific conditions surrounding his birth. Asta’s mother, Richita, had an odd condition that made her drain the mana and life force of anything she came in contact with. Because of that, after his birth, Asta was born with no magic thanks to the prolonged exposure to his own mother. This made Asta an anomaly. Meanwhile, Liebe was simply born that way for no reason, making his case even more curious.

Regardless, being born with no mana isn’t common. Someone born with mana is automatically unable to use Anti-Magic, as that would collide with their life energy. This makes Anti-Magic an extremely uncommon ability to see being used in Black Clover, making its powers more impressive and dangerous. What’s more, Anti-Magic can’t even be copied, so it truly stands out as a unique power that rules above all.

The Fate Of Anti Magic In Black Clover After Asta Becomes The Wizard King

Fate Anti Magic Black Clover
Asta unleashes his power, accessing Devil Union mode.

Asta is the current Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom in the story. This was revealed to us following the release of the final chapter of Black Clover, chapter 392, in Jump GIGA’s Spring Edition on May 1, 2026. We weren't surprised to see Asta finally ascend to this rank after a heated battle with Yuno. After all, he was the main character, and he was always destined to become the greatest around. His anti-magic was the main reason he made it this far, and while Yuno gave it his best, Asta’s powers to counter any Mana user eventually came out on top.

Now, with Asta having achieved his dream, fans may be wondering what the fate of anti-magic will be from here onwards. The fact is that Liebe’s grimoire will continue on existing, but whether someone will be born without mana afterwards to take it up again is unclear. As established already, being without mana is not a common occurrence. It must be said, however, that if Asta had a child, there is definitely a chance that they could be born without mana as well due to Asta's own condition. Of course, we can't know that unless Tabata decides to create a sequel or an extra one-shot revealing the future of the protagonist. Since Asta’s condition was specifically caused by his mother, it’s unclear if that would affect his children as well.

Black Clover’s final chapter left off at a very unsatisfactory conclusion for Asta’s love life and possible future family. Thankfully, the story does have one final chapter coming on August 4, 2026, alongside the release of Volume 38. In it, Tabata might finally reveal whom Asta ends up with between Noelle and Mimosa. With that knowledge, he could then set up Asta’s future and the possibility of him having his own children. It would definitely be interesting to see if Asta's descendants are born with mana or not. In case they aren't, they could continue on the legacy of anti-magic set up by Asta during Black Clover's run, and gain access to the strongest magic around.

All the chapters of Black Clover by Yuki Tabata are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
