The Alters Last Variable: How to Unlock Alter Slots
The more populated your base, the faster the progression! The Alters' Last Variable DLC features several Alters to create to help you deal with bigger threats in a short timeframe, but to create more of them, you're going to need the Quantum Computer in the Field Lab. How to Unlock More Alter Slots in Last Variable

You need a Quantum Computer and a Field Lab to unlock more alter slots. To begin, you're going to need to terraform the Rocky Valley, and you can select the guide above for a walkthrough of this process.
After the Rocky Valley has been transformed, report back to JanBot, which will unlock the Field Lb research node. From the Workshop, craft the Field Lab! Just make sure to set up the Field Lab in the location marked on your map, which will be a tall cliff in the middle of the Rocky Valley, near the underground metal deposit area.
After you set up the Field Lab, you need to assign one of the alters to stay inside the lab for the duration of the sunrise. Be aware that this decision is not reversible. You won't be able to change the assigned alter later, and he will always work in the Field Lab.
After assigning an alter for the Field Lab, your Qubit Level will increase, which is equivalent to an upgrade to the Quantum Computer. This will add a new slot to the Quantum Computer, allowing you to create the rest of the alters. Keep in mind that you have a total of three slots on the Quantum Computer, but since the alter in the Field Lab is not supposed to return, the QC will show you two empty slots, which means you can add two new alters to the base.
Once you are done with your other tasks, you can initiate Cryosleep to begin the next cycle. The first thing you do in the new cycle is to check on the alter in the Field Lab. He will share some important findings with you, and after the conversation, you will receive some new research nodes that will help you craft a new material type that is required for researching more advanced nodes.
Unlocking even more alter slots is tied to story progression. It's not something you can initiate earlier than four cycles. No matter how hard you try, you won't get access to new alter slots anytime sooner than the fourth cycle.
