The Alters: Last Variable shares a lot of its core mechanics with the base experience. Resource gathering still remains the main pillar of the game to make progress, and you need to find Rapidium as the key material to create new alters. Below, you'll find exactly where to find Rapidium and how to get it for your alters!

Make sure you have enough Mining Outposts and Pylons to establish your first Rapidium mining facility!

Where to Find Rapidium in The Alters Last Variable DLC

To find Rapidium, you need to move south from the base. Just follow the path drawn on the map above, and you will find the first Shallow Rapidium deposit near a climbable cliff. This should give you enough Rapidium to create your very first alter. But don't get back to the base just now.

Climb up the cliff next to the deposit to discover the Oasis region. If you haven't unlocked the Cheaper Climbing perk yet, climbing up the cliff will cost you 6 energy bars, leaving you with zero energy. You won't be able to scan the ground and find the massive Rapidium source in the Oasis just yet. To overcome this issue, take the path to the right after climbing up and try to move towards the base without dropping off.

Now, create a Fast Travel Pylon on the edge of the cliff, then drop off and connect it to the base using simple Pylons. This way, you can always fast-travel on top of the cliff without consuming any energy.

When you discover the Oasis, you should be able to spot another Shallow Rapidium deposit on the far side of the Oasis. Just follow the path on the left to reach that spot. On your way to the deposit, you will find small packs of Rapidium on the ground to collect.

You will also face a Time Dilation anomaly on the way, but you can sneak around it without losing any time. Once you reach the deposit, continue on the path to the right, and you will find a massive light emitting from the ground. This is the biggest Rapidium resource node. It's an underground deposit that you can only collect using either a Mining Outpost or an Extractor. If you don't know what an Extractor is, don't worry, you will learn about it as you make progress in the game.

Place scanners on the ground to find the Mining Outpost spot, then build the outpost and use Pylons to connect it to the base. If you have already created the fast travel Pylon we mentioned earlier, then you just need to connect the Mining Outpost to that Pylon.

Later on, you will return to this resource node to plant an Extractor and connect it with pipes to a Phaser, which is built on top of Geyser Building Spots, those fountain-like spots where the water ejects from the ground. But keep in mind that the output from the Mining Outpost is different from the output of the Extractor and Phaser. So, you will have to build the Mining Outpost. You can't skip it.
