After 13 Years, GTA Online Makes Way for the GTA 6 Era to Finally Begin in Full
GTA Online gets its last major update before the Rockstar Games series enters its next chapter with GTA 6, fans believe. The Kortz Center Heist is finally here, giving players a new museum robbery to tackle with friends, new rewards to earn, and another reason to return to Los Santos. However, with Grand Theft Auto 6 now approaching, this latest update also feels like the closing chapter of an era that completely changed Rockstar Games.
GTA Online has been one of the biggest successes in gaming history, transforming Grand Theft Auto 5 from an already massive and seminal release for the industry into one of the most profitable entertainment products ever made. For spot-on 13 years, Rockstar has continued supporting the online mode with major expansions, vehicles, businesses, and heists, so much so that GTA still constantly tops sales charts. Traditional Rockstar single-player DLC was set aside to chase the success of live-service games. GTA 5 was the main course, and GTA Online was a never-ending buffet. While Online is going nowhere, GTA 6's upcoming arrival means the company's priorities are about to shift, and that hopefully means even more GTA 6 news.
The Kortz Center Heist is Officially Available Now

After the preload went live earlier this week, the GTA Online Kortz Center Heist is officially available across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The new mission tasks players with infiltrating the Kortz Center museum, working with Mr. Faber and Raf De Angelis to steal valuable artwork. Unlike a typical robbery, players will team up with a counterfeiter to create fake versions of the paintings, allowing them to replace the originals during the heist. Players can then decide whether to sell the real artwork or display it in their Mansions, with three new paintings available to steal each week.

How to Start the Kortz Center Heist
To start the Kortz Center Heist, players will need to own a GTA Online Mansion and obtain the new Art Studio expansion. The heist can be completed solo, but crews of up to four players will have more opportunities to grab additional loot. Rockstar is also offering several bonuses around the update, including:
- Mansion owners who logged in before July 13 receive a GTA $1 million discount on the Art Studio expansion, a free Annihilator Stealth helicopter, and exclusive rewards
- All players can earn GTA$500,000 and a free Benefactor Turreted Limo by participating during the promotional period
- GTA+ subscribers can get the new Grotti Veleno GT one week early

While Rockstar has not officially confirmed that the Kortz Center Heist is the final major GTA Online update, the timing makes it feel like a turning point if nothing else. The heist is the first major addition since the Cayo Perico Heist in 2020, and with Grand Theft Auto 6 launching on November 19, it seems increasingly likely that Rockstar's biggest resources will soon move toward the next generation of GTA.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
Rockstar has kept quiet on the Online mode accompanying GTA 6, but it's essentially the company's worst-kept secret. After everything Online did for GTA 5, fans can expect GTA 6 Online in the weeks following GTA 5. It remains to be seen how GTA 6 Online evolves on GTA 5 Online and how the two coexist, if it's not simply a major new map and overhaul for GTA 5 Online. Simply put, though, GTA Online is making way for Rockstar to focus on GTA 6 while it enters maintenance mode, but it's incredibly popular and going nowhere in the long-term. At least not as officially announced yet. The Kortz Center Heist is essentially a bookend, dividing the eras of GTA 5 and GTA 6, and soon it'll be time to read something from the new side of the divide.
