Resident Evil Requiem released earlier this year to critical acclaim and commercial success, and it appears Capcom isn't ready to stop working on the game just yet.

There have been rumours about Capcom actively developing expansions since Requiem released, and now Dusk Golem—a well-known Resident Evil data miner and leaker—has suggested the studio is developing several expansions of a comparable length to Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose.

Requiem Could Have Lengthy Expansions

"I want to share something interesting I heard which I think is really interesting, Resident Evil related," writes Dusk Golem. "Capcom is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE, of the length and ambition of Separate Ways/Shadows of Rose, for both Requiem and future RE titles."

Dusk Golem believes this is because Capcom has struggled to create side games in recent years, and expansions are stopgap solutions that fill the studio's release schedule between major releases.

They've also heard that any expansions for Requiem will be released after Resident Evil Veronica, the remake of Code Veronica that's set to release next year.

The final scene of Requiem depicts a group of unknown soldiers eliminating BSAA forces in the ruins of Raccoon City to retrieve their "objective." In Resident Evil, there's always another secret society or clandestine organisation for Leon and friends to dismantle, and this teaser certainly supports this pattern.

The latter half of Requiem is a 'homecoming' of sorts for Leon, allowing him to return to Raccoon City, the place where it all began for him in Resident Evil 2. With this in mind, an expansion that allows Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield to also confront the demons of their past would be interesting, but unlikely.

I feel any expansion for Requiem will likely focus on Grace, as she's the series' newest major character and is extremely popular to boot. However, Resident Evil expansions tend to thrust the player into a scenario where they're already at a high power level, and Grace isn't known for her combat prowess.

It's difficult to know what Capcom is working on, but I suspect we won't be playing as Leon, whose death-defying antics at the end of Requiem felt like sort of a swan song for the fan-favourite character.
