Chromite is one of the most valuable late-game resources in Palworld, especially after the full 1.0 release. It is required to craft Hexolite, which is used for some of the strongest weapons, armor, and advanced equipment in the game. Unlike regular ore deposits, Chromite cannot be seen on the surface. This makes it so much harder to find. If you’re struggling to farm large amounts of Chromite in Palworld, this guide can help you out.

How to Find Chromite in Palworld

Chromite is found exclusively on Feybreak Island. Instead of appearing as visible ore veins, it is buried underground and has to be detected before it can be mined.

Most Chromite deposits spawn inside caves, dungeons, Alpha Pal boss rooms, and in the red volcanic areas across the island. While surface nodes do exist, underground locations are generally a much more reliable source because several deposits can appear within the same cave.

Once a buried node is revealed, simply mine it using a Pickaxe or let a mining Pal break it for you.

How to Detect Buried Chromite

There are two ways to detect Chromite deposits.

The first one is to use the Metal Detector, which becomes available at Technology Level 58. When equipped, it begins beeping whenever buried metal is nearby. The closer the player gets to a Chromite deposit, the faster the detector beeps until the node can be uncovered.

The second method uses Smokie, a Dark-type Pal introduced with Feybreak. Smokie's Partner Skill lets it detect and dig up nearby Chromite without relying on the Metal Detector. Even better, Smokie increases the amount of Chromite gained from every node. This is why it’s worth bringing Smokie to your Chromite farm runs, even if you already have a Metal Detector.

A fully condensed Smokie increases Chromite rewards even further, making it worth upgrading if regular farming is part of the late game routine.

How to Get Smokie

Smokie can be found roaming the northeastern region of Feybreak Island, where it can be captured like other wild Pals.

You can also challenge the Alpha Smokie found inside the Sealed Realm of the Little Hero. Unlocking this battle requires defeating other Field Alpha bosses first, including Glidane, Warsect Terra, and Kitsun Noct, making it more suitable for high-level players.

After catching Smokie, unlock and craft Smokie's Harness at Technology Level 56. This way, you can use its Partner Skill to reveal hidden Chromite deposits whenever Smokie is summoned.

Best Chromite Farming Locations

The four best locations to get Chromite are:

  • Shield Dragon Tunnel [-970, -977]
  • Dark Flame Tunnel [-1052, -1209]
  • Bloodstained Tunnel [-1206, -1388]
  • Crystalized Tunnel [-910, -1318]

All of these caves have 4 Chromite nodes each. So, if you’re going in with a fully condensed Smokie, you can mine up to 600 Chromite per cave you visit.

Best Route to Farm Chromite

Start by fast traveling to Feybreak Island with a ground mount equipped. Keep the Metal Detector active while riding since it continues working without slowing movement. Whenever the detector reacts, dismount, summon Smokie, reveal the buried node, and mine it before moving on.

One of the most efficient surface routes begins around Scorched Hill, where multiple buried Chromite nodes appear throughout the surrounding red terrain. Many deposits are scattered near rocky formations, roads, and elevated cliffs, making it possible to collect a large amount without entering a dungeon.

Caves and Alpha Pal dungeons are equally valuable because they often contain three or four Chromite nodes inside a single run. After clearing multiple caves, simply rotate between different farming locations while waiting for deposits to respawn naturally.

What is Chromite Used For?

Chromite is mainly used to smelt Hexolite inside the Gigantic Furnace. Each piece of Hexolite requires Chromite alongside Hexolite Quartz and Ore. Since many late-game weapons, armor sets, and advanced technology recipes consume Hexolite, players often need hundreds of Chromite over time.

Building a stockpile early saves countless farming trips later when crafting powerful equipment such as advanced armor, energy weapons, and other endgame gear.

FAQs

Do I need the Metal Detector to farm Chromite?

No. Smokie can also locate buried Chromite using its Partner Skill. However, using both together makes farming much faster.

Where is the best place to farm Chromite?

Feybreak Island caves, Alpha Pal dungeons, and the Scorched Hill route offer some of the most consistent Chromite farming locations.

Does Smokie increase Chromite drops?

Yes. Smokie boosts the amount of Chromite received from each node, and the bonus becomes even larger after fully condensing the Pal.
