Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has a range of different weapons across different classes, some of which are iconic. For those jumping in on PS4 and 5, picking between the game's vast selection of weapons can be a challenge. Luckily, here is a meta tier list ranking every weapon in Black Ops 2, from meta options like the AN-94 to options you should probably avoid.

S-Tier

Absolute God Tier Weapons in Black Ops 2

AN-94 - Black Ops 2

AN-94

A high damage Assault Rifle that is also paired with a higher than average fire rate. Arguably the best full-auto Assault Rifle in the game.

MSMC

Excellent full-auto SMG with one of the highest levels of damage range in its class. Boasts fairly low recoil and is good at almost all ranges.

SCAR-H

A heavy-hitting Assault Rifle and one of the easiest weapons to use in the game. Boasts very little recoil. It's a great all-purpose weapon with easily the best iron sights in the game.

M8A1

High damage four-round Burst Assault Rifle. Incredibly accurate and lays down impressive damage across range, boasting a reliable and average two burst kill at almost all ranges if every shot in your burst finds its mark.

MP7

Full auto compact SMG. Boasts great handling and low recoil, along with a good level of damage. A perfect all round option, performing well up close and at medium range.

Ballista

Excellent bolt-action Sniper Rifle. Sports less damage than the DSR.50 and only dishes out a reliable one-shot kill from the chest and up, but boasts far better handling speeds and better accuracy.

A-Tier

Great Meta Weapons in Black Ops 2

MTAR - Black Ops 2

MTAR

Excellent all round Assault Rifle. Exceptional when used at medium range, and sports a great TTK thanks to its fast fire rate.

Vector K10

High fire rate SMG with relatively low recoil. Excellent option for close range, but its range could use a buff.

Scorpion EVO

Iconic SMG with a high fire rate. Boasts a rapid time to kill but prepare to contend with high recoil.

LSAT

A notoriously strong LMG. Great range, excellent damage output, and incredibly accurate. Pairs well when prefiring with the Target Finder Optic.

XPR-50

Semi-automatic Sniper Rifle that actually boasts a reliable one-shot kill to the chest. Its damage is on par with the Ballista, though its accuracy is on the lower side.

DSR.50

Arguably the second-best Sniper Rifle in the game. Has the best level of damage in the Sniper Class and boasts a reliable one-shot kill from the waist and up. It is slightly less accurate and slower than the Ballista, however.

B23R

High damage burst fire Pistol. It sports good damage, a solid fire rate, and is an all-round great swap to Secondary. Requires a keen level of accuracy to wield effectively.

KAP-40

Full auto Machine Pistol. Essentially, it acts as a pocket SMG, and is a good option for Sniper players. Boasts great DPS, but a small magazine size to compensate.

Remington 870 MCS

By far the best Shotgun in the game. Sports the second-best level of damage in the category and provides a reliable one-to-two shot kill. The fire rate is on the lower side, but it packs a hefty punch.

FAL OSW

High damage and fast-firing semi-auto Assault Rifle. Sports light recoil and is exceptionally strong for players with a fast trigger finger. Boasts light recoil, but requires accuracy to use effectively.

B-Tier

Good Weapons in Black Ops 2

Peacekeeper - Black Ops 2

Peacekeeper

Essentially, it acts as an SMG / Assault Rifle hybrid. Boasts great range and fast handling. It sits well at medium range gunfights and is an excellent option to run.

PDW-57

A good SMG with great range and the largest magazine of any SMG. It's a great all-round weapon, but it is generally outshined by other options in its class.

M27

Incredibly low recoil and easy to use. Boasts an average time to kill, and is an all-round great weapon that any player can just pick up and use effectively.

Type 25

Full auto Assault Rifle with an exceptionally high fire rate. Boasts a rapid TTK that is offset with higher than average level of recoil. Great up close and at medium range.

Five Seven

Arguably the best of the semi-auto Pistols. Balances a moderate damage profile with a decent fire rate, and has a larger magazine than most other secondary options.

Tac-45

Often used interchangeably with the Five Seven. It sports far better damage, but it does have a lower fire rate. A good contender when it comes to the semi-auto options.

C-Tier

Viable Weapons in Black Ops 2

Mk 48 - Black Ops 2

Mk 48

Lower on average fire rate when it comes to weapons of its class. Great for providing suppressing fire and is a viable option.

HAMR

An interesting option for the LMG class. Boasts solid damage, and has the gimmick of reducing its fire rate over time. Improves its accuracy, but does not help with overall TTK.

QBB LSW

A solid handling LMG that performs more like a heavy Assault Rifle. Sports a lower on average magazine size for its class, and is a perfectly viable option, but not a standout weapon in the meta.

SMR

Semi-automatic Assault Rifle with the highest damage per shot in the class. A viable option for highly accurate players, but outclassed by other options.

Chicom CQB

Three-round burst SMG. Boasts a high fire rate and is perfectly viable. However, other SMGs are just far better.

S12

Semi-automatic Shotgun that can be a pain to come across at close range. It's a viable spray and prey option, but is not quite a competitive weapon.

Executioner

27 gauge Revolver. Acts more like a pocket Shotgun. Great stopping power up close but poor range.

D-Tier

Low Ranking Weapons in Black Ops 2

SWAT-556 - Black Ops 2

SWAT-556

A 3-round burst rifle with a fair amount of damage, but overall it isn't worth going for over other Assault Rifle options.

M1216

A fully automatic Shotgun, but rechambers after four shots. Viable, but the rechambering can get in the way sometimes.

KSG

Definitely a low D-Tier option. The KSG fires a slug round, making it the best Shotgun at range. However, players need to be more accurate when using it. This Shotgun can be an excellent option for highly skilled players, but overall, other options outrank it.

SVU-AS

Semi-automatic Sniper Rifle. Boasts light recoil and a high fire rate, but lower on average damage. It can be used with some success, but other Sniper Rifles simply have it beat.

Assault Shield

A shield that can be carried and placed down as deployable cover. It can be a viable option when placed on your back to protect yourself from behind, but can be pretty cost-effective for the Pick 10 system if you want to run Overkill and an additional Primary.

FHJ-18 AA

Guided shoulder-mounted Rocket Launcher. The clear best choice for taking down Scorestreaks, but other than that, it isn't all that useful.

SMAW

A free fire Launcher that can also lock onto Scorestreaks. Definitely a more versatile launcher, but outside of taking down UAVs and other aircraft, it's fairly useless.

F-Tier

Weapons in Black Ops 2 You Should Avoid

Ballistic Knife - Black Ops 2

Ballistic Knife

The only melee weapon in the game, apart from the standard default knife. It can fire a retrievable knife, but overall it's more of a gimmicky weapon than a meta option.

Crossbow

Explosive Crossbow. High damage but is similar to the Ballistic Knife in the sense that it's a gimmicky weapon. Fun to use, but not exactly a viable option in the meta.

RPG

Free fire Launcher. It's the worst Launcher when it comes to taking down aerial Scorestreaks, and while it can be used against players and ground Scorestreaks, it's not exactly a meta weapon.
