Destiny 2: Best Titan Solar Build (Monument of Triumph)
Solar Titans in Destiny 2 have one goal in mind: survive, but with the Swordmaster + Stronghold + Praxic Blade Solar Titan, survival is assured, as is an infinite spam of deadly ignitions that will kill any enemy that even dares to look your way. This Solar Titan build relies on the Praxic Blade and Stronghold Gauntlets to enjoy an easy loop of deflecting hits, swinging the blade to deal damage, and watching everything burn while you heal back anything lethal. Here's how the build works and what you'll need to pull it off.
Solar Titan Subclass Setup: Aspects & Fragments
Aspects
| Aspect | Description | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Roaring Flames | Final blows with Solar abilities or ignitions increase the damage of your Solar abilities. Stacks 3 times. | A stacking damage buff to Solar abilities will help when you drop your guard and start swinging the Praxic Blade. |
| Sol Invictus | Solar ability final blows, Hammer of Sol impacts, and defeating scorched targets create Sunspots. Your abilities regenerate faster, and your Super drains more slowly while standing in a Sunspot. Sunspots apply scorch and deal damage to targets inside. Entering a Sunspot applies restoration. | You'll be creating plenty of Sunspots as the Praxic Blade will be scorching every target it hits, and these Sunspots will help you reach Restoration x2 to outheal damage. |
Fragments
| Fragment | Description | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Ember of Empyrean | Solar weapon or ability final blows extend the duration of restoration and radiant effects applied to you. | Essentially, you'll have Restoration and Radiant indefinitely. |
| Ember of Solace | Radiant and restoration effects applied to you have increased duration. | Your safety window increases, as you will have Radiant and Restoration effects for longer. |
| Ember of Ashes | You apply more scorch stacks to targets. | More Scorch stacks mean that enemies will trigger Ignitions faster. |
| Ember of Char | Your Solar ignitions spread scorch to affected targets. | Ignitions start a chain reaction by Scorching targets, which will cause them to ignite, and repeat the loop. |
Abilities
| Ability | Description | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Hammer of Sol (Super) | Throw your hammer at foes. Upon impact, your hammers shatter into explosive molten shards. | Each hammer will create a Sunspot thanks to Sol Invictus, which is going to help damage enemies and keep you alive for longer. |
| Rally Barricade (Class) | Creates a small barrier that you can peek over while aiming down sights; increases weapon reload speed, stability, and range. Draws hostile fire when you stand behind it. | The Rally Barricade is a nice distraction to draw enemy fire, but it also helps you shoot from a distance if enemies are too far away from the Praxic Blade. |
| Throwing Hammer (Melee) | Throw a hammer from a distance. Picking up a thrown hammer grants melee energy. Energy generated is scaled by your Melee stat. If the hammer struck a target, picking it up grants cure. | Throwing a hammer at an enemy grants cure, and killing an enemy with it grants a Sunspot to kickstart Restoration. |
| Healing Grenade | A grenade that cures allies on impact and creates an Orb of benevolent Solar Light, granting restoration to allies when picked up. | If you're in trouble, throw a Healing Grenade at yourself to instantly get your lost health back. |
Praxic Blade & Weapon Synergies
The Praxic Blade is your primary weapon for this build, and this Exotic Sword can be obtained from the Fire and Ice Exotic Mission. You can also get very useful Catalysts and Upgrades here, and here's a look at our Praxic Blade god roll:
| Blade Customization | Upgrade Part | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Blade Form | Offensive Form | Landing three melee hits grants ammo, and it's basically infinite ammo when you're attacking enemies constantly. Your damage against bosses is also increased. |
| Blade Focus | Forceful Blade III | The impact (damage) of the Praxic Blade is greatly increased. |
| Power Core | Impact Core | Melee damage from the Praxic Blade scorches targets, which synergises with the Aspects and Fragments mentioned above. |
| Trait | Hyperblade | Reflecting shots makes you amplified (which increases sprint speed) and increases Sword lunge distance. |
Yeartide Apex (Or Any Energy Weapon With Attrition Orbs and Chaos Reshaped)
While this build will mostly (if not always) be using the Praxic Blade, there are some opportunities where you're going to need an Energy Weapon to break combatant shields or simply to use something if you run out of Special Ammo. For that reason, we use the Yeartide Apex with Attrition Orbs and Chaos Reshaped. The first Perk is great for generating Orbs of Power with sustained damage, and Chaos Reshaped rewards extra damage and healing if you stay in combat.
Your Power Weapon is completely optional depending on the situation you're in. You might be in an encounter where you need a Heavy Sniper or a Machine Gun, so just pick whatever you feel is right for the job.
Solar Armor: Swordmaster & Stronghold (With Mods & Stats)
You're going to want to get the Swordmaster Armor Set for this Solar Titan build, which can be acquired from Zavala. This set is essential thanks to the following Armor Set Bonuses:
| Set Bonuses | Description | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Balestra | Damaging a target with a Sword, Glaive, or any melee attack exhausts them. Exhausted targets deal reduced outgoing damage. | Attacking with the Praxic Blade will Exhaust enemies, which reduces their outgoing damage. |
| Stesso Tempo | Blocking attacks with a Sword or Glaive grants a short period of damage resistance against targets when you next drop your guard. | Blocking damage with the Praxic Blade is going to grant more damage resistance. |
Stronghold
Stronghold will be your Exotic Gauntlets for this Solar Titan build, and the reason comes from the Armor Perk, Clenched Fist. While blocking with the Praxic Blade, you will take reduced damage, and rapidly damaging targets with the Praxic Blade after blocking grants Restoration, with its duration determined by the number of shots blocked. Basically, block damage, attack, block damage, attack, etc.
When it comes to farming armor stats, you're going to want to focus on Weapons, Super, and Grenade. The higher the stats in all three, the better, but if you want any of these stats at 200, it's Weapons, as the more damage the Praxic Blade can do, the better.
As for Armor Mods, here's what you should be focusing on:
| Armor | Mods | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Special Ammo Finder Kinetic Siphon Solar Siphon | You'll have an easier time getting Praxic Blade ammo. Grants Orbs of Power for Praxic Blade kills. Grants Orbs of Power for Solar weapon kills. |
| Arms | Shield Break Charge Solar Loader Solar Loader | You get Ammo Charges for breaking shields with a matching elemental weapon. Reload Solar weapons faster. Reload Solar weapons faster. |
| Chest | Melee Damage Resistance Arc/Solar/Void Resistance | Reduces close-range damage. Resistance mod based on the element that the activity has as the threat. |
| Legs | Recuperation Kinetic Scavenger Stacks on Stacks | Orbs of Power provide health. More ammo for the Praxic Blade on ammo brick pickups. Picking up an Orb of Power generates 2 Armor Charges. |
| Class Item | Special Finisher Reaper Bomber | Grants Praxic Blade ammo with a Finisher for the cost of 3 Armor Charges. Use the Class Ability, and the next weapon final blow generates an Orb of Power. Reduces Grenade cooldown when using Class Ability. |
Hunter's Journal (Artifact Perks Breakdown)
The Hunter's Journal complements the Solar Titan build perfectly thanks to these seven Artifact Perks:
| Perk | Description | Why It's Useful |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Diffusion Substrate | Gain a small amount of resistance to all damage dealt to you by combatants. | Extra damage resistance paired with Stronghold and Praxic Blade's damage absorption makes you near-invincible. |
| Press the Advantage | Breaking a combatant’s shield grants increased weapon stability, handling, and reload speed. Swords gain increased guard resistance. | More guard resistance will allow you to keep deflecting and blocking shots. |
| Solar Fulmination | Your ignitions do increased damage in an increased radius. | Reflected damage from the Praxic Blade will cause even more powerful ignitions that spread even further. |
| Radiant Orbs | While you have a Solar or Prismatic subclass equipped, picking up an Orb of Power makes you radiant. | Picking up Orbs of Power grants Radiant, allowing you to get your Solar buffs faster. |
| Counter Energy | When you or a member of your fireteam stuns a champion, you gain energy for your least-charged ability. | Always have available energy for your Class Ability, Healing Grenade, or Throwing Hammer. |
| Blade Stamina | Rapidly defeating combatants with a Sword refunds some ammo. | You'll have almost near-infinite Praxic Bladfe ammo. |
| Shieldcrush | While you have amplified or radiant, your grenade recharges faster and deals increased damage. | Boosting your grenade recharge means you'll always have a safety net of a Healing Grenade at the ready, since you're always going to be Amplified or Radiant. |
The Solar Titan Stronghold + Praxic Blade Gameplay Loop
Ignitions, Restoration, Deflections, and Victory!
- Block/deflect with the Praxic Blade to reduce incoming damage and send damage back into enemies with reflection.
- Reflected damage will Scorch and even cause Ignition on enemies as you get closer to them while deflecting.
- Start attacking enemies at close-range with the Praxic Blade to cause more Ignitions and spawn Sunspots to get Restoration x2 and keep your Solar buffs active.
- Repeat the cycle of deflecting damage and using x3 light attacks, then x1 heavy attack with the Praxic Blade.
