EA removes microtransactions from EA Sports College Football 27 following backlash

Developer says it "missed the mark" by introducing paid progression options ranging from $9.99 to $149.99

Electronic Arts has removed microtransactions from EA Sports College Football 27 in response to feedback from players and content creators.

The developer acknowledged it had "missed the mark with the introduction of paid progression options" in its Road to Glory and Dynasty single-player modes.

Previous titles allowed players to use experience modifiers to level up faster. These were replaced with microtransactions ranging from $9.99 to $149.99.

According to IGN, content creators stated that microtransactions were not disclosed before launch and were absent from previews.

"This was added independent of deeper mode progression with the aim to give players more choice, but what you've said is that they're not adding the value we intended," said EA.

"Our goal for live service plans in College Football 28 and beyond will be to deliver valuable features and content with greater transparency and communication."

It is not yet clear if refunds will be provided to those who have already purchased in-game currency.

EA noted that "an unfortunate side effect" of removing the paid progression content means that "players that have College Point balances in their wallets will now not be able to apply the balances in Road to Glory or Dynasty."
