The hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 has already reached historic levels, which most gamers could probably attest to, and a new report has revealed what that may look like in dollar signs. Ever since GTA 6 pre-orders opened, Rockstar Games' next open-world crime game has been the talk of the town and has put up some serious numbers, shattering its lowest expectations and living up to and beyond its highest.

It's worth noting that GTA 6 isn't the only thing happening for Rockstar Games right now. Almost like a bookend to the GTA 5 era, it recently released the new Kortz Center Heist for Grand Theft Auto Online, and fans have been eating it up as one of the biggest content drops in a long while. Of course, it's been uber successful too, but nowhere near as much as predicted for GTA 6.

GTA 6 to Make 3.25-to-5 Billion in One Week

All of that is now reflected in new data from industry analytics firm Newzoo (as first reported by Insider Gaming), which believes Grand Theft Auto 6 is on pace for one of the biggest launches in entertainment history. The company estimates the game has already generated roughly $260 million in worldwide digital pre-orders just weeks after they became available, calling it the strongest pre-order launch campaign it has ever tracked.

At the same time, Newzoo pushed back against viral claims that GTA 6 had already crossed $1 billion in pre-orders, calling those reports "absurd" and saying nothing in the current market is likely to reach that milestone through pre-orders alone. As Newzoo's report stated:

"Run that [$260M] figure through the plausible band of preorder curves, and GTA 6 is on track to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in week-one launch revenue."

GameRant Quiz

Based on current pre-order trends and historical sales curves, Newzoo projects Grand Theft Auto 6 could generate between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion during its first week on the market. If that happens, it would easily surpass the already staggering launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. Few would argue with the sheer potential of these sales numbers, which is also reflected in how many video games are awkwardly avoiding GTA 6's November release window.

Part of that projection comes down to the unprecedented demand surrounding GTA 6. According to Newzoo, the first week of pre-orders alone represents the largest opening campaign the firm has ever observed, despite the game still being roughly five months away from release. GTA 6 has won a couple of Most Anticipated game awards in recent years, so this is a case where intangible historical industry trends are translating into tangible real-world actions.

Of course, these figures remain projections, not guarantees. Rockstar Games has yet to reveal GTA 6 Trailer 3, outline its full marketing roadmap, or share additional details about GTA 6's Online component. Even so, if Grand Theft Auto 6 continues on its current trajectory, it could become one of the biggest entertainment launches ever, not just the biggest video game release of 2027.
