Halo: Campaign Evolved Seemingly Unplayable Offline Due To Controversial Requirement
George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends.
Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4.
Early physical copies of Halo: Campaign Evolved have revealed that the game requires a sign-in and a mandatory update to access, suggesting it’s useless offline.
Over the past few console generations, one of the most annoying downsides to most triple-A releases is how many games require an internet connection or updates to even play. Pretty much every game nowadays has a hefty day-one update waiting for you as soon as you start, and that’s even if you have the physical release.
This makes playing games offline almost impossible for a lot of releases, at the very least until you’ve set it all up the first time around. It looks like Halo: Campaign Evolved is sadly another one of those games, as those with early access have discovered a mandatory update and sign-in before you can even get into it.
Halo: Campaign Evolved Has A Mandatory Update And Sign-In
It’s Another Coaster Of A Disc Without Internet
As pointed out by MP1st and reported by Twitter user DoesItPlay1, some lucky gamers have managed to get early access to Halo: Campaign Evolved’s physical release. I say lucky, but that might not be the right word, as they discovered that the game has multiple annoying requirements when you start it up.
Even after being installed on a disc, Halo: Campaign Evolved requires an update to even be played. The message says that a “new game update” is available and asks the user to close the game and download it, suggesting this might be the case every time there’s an update for Campaign Evolved.
The user with early access to the game also revealed that there’s a mandatory login that prevents you from playing if it’s unsuccessful. It’s not clear if this is needed every time you play Campaign Evolved, but it’s another online requirement headache that looks to make it basically unplayable offlline, making the physical release a little useless.
Considering how many examples we've had of games being unplayable when servers go down, this sign-in requirement doesn't exactly bode well.
Some of this was shared by Halo Studios prior to Campaign Evolved’s release, but it’s baffling considering the game notably doesn’t have any multiplayer components. To see it being shackled with so many requirements is a massive shame and yet another reminder of the importance of proper physical releases.
