Magic’s Marvel Super Heroes Commander Decks Are Discounted on Amazon

Magic: The Gathering launched a Marvel set last year with its take on Spider-Man, and the set mostly underwhelmed outside of some cool new designs. That’s particularly true for Commander players, with the game’s most popular format not treated to any preconstructed deck options.

Thankfully, that’s not the case with Marvel Super Heroes, which is the current set. Not only are there four decks on offer, but buying them all in a bundle from Amazon can save you a few bucks right now.

First, some caveats. Yes, the Marvel precons are pricier than Universes Within decks, and priced even higher than last year’s Final Fantasy options. And, like those decks, there are premium options that include all foils for a much higher fee.

We’re focusing on the standard versions here, and Amazon is selling the bundle for $249.95. That brings the price per deck down from $74.99 to $62.49, which is still more than the majority of decks around.

Still, with data from TCGplayer putting the Doom Prevails deck alone at $82, you might find some value here, particularly if you were planning on buying them all anyway.

As for which ones to pick up if you don’t want the bundle, I’ve been having a ton of fun with Avengers Assemble, helmed by Captain America, Team Leader. It has really strong hero synergies and a nice, simple game plan underpinned by iconic characters that do more or less what you’d expect them to.

Second choice is Wakanda Forever. This Black Panther deck is all about artifacts, including indestructible Vibranium that taps for mana. It doesn’t take long to build up a surprisingly resilient board state, although I’m not sure the Monarch mechanic is best served here (although it is, admittedly, flavorful).

Third is Marvel’s First Family for me. The Fantastic Four precon is really fun, particularly when helmed by The Human Torch, but it definitely needs all four members on the battlefield to really pop off.

Finally, Doom Prevails, as expensive as it is, is actually a little too cluttered with strategies. I think there’s a ton of potential for upgrades, but it’s a cut below the others in the set. Thankfully, there are a ton of villain cards you can slot in from the set.

Tempted by the bundle, or waiting for a price drop on the individual decks? Let us know in the comments.
