Black Clover Sets Up New Character Stronger Than Wizard King
Black Clover was a massively impactful shonen series from the 2010s, but on May 1, 2026, it came to an end with its final Chapter 392. Yuki Tabata's journey with Black Clover was long and filled with hurdles that caused the story to go on hiatus several times, and extended the time the story took to conclude.
With that being said, Black Clover has now wrapped up, and we finally have a better idea of the end-of-story power levels of the main characters. For a long time, the Wizard King Julius was the strongest character around. Asta and Yuno were already close to his level by the end of the final battle, and after that two-year time skip, they are set up to have surpassed him in power. More of their powers could be given soon in the upcoming extra chapter releasing on August 4, 2026, with the final volume release, giving us an even better look at their final power level.
Black Clover Confirmed Lucius As The Wizard King And One of the Strongest Characters
Black Clover kickstarted in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 on February 16, 2015. Immediately upon the start of the story, we were exposed to Asta's main goal, which was to become the Wizard King. Asta wanted to achieve this for a few reasons, but mainly, it was to attain enough strength to protect everyone around him and to prove himself to the world. Wizard King in itself is a prestigious title that indicates one to be the strongest Wizard in the Kingdom, and it definitely wasn’t an easy goal for him to accomplish.
In Black Clover's current timeline, the 28th Wizard King was none other than Julius Novachrono, who was first introduced in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 in 2015 with the release of the Black Clover Chapter 1 on February 16, 2015. While Julius made his debut as a great ally of the Clover Kingdom, by the end of the story, it was revealed that things weren't as they seemed with him. Inside Julius' body, there were two souls. Julius himself was not evil, but he was possessed by a second soul known as Lucius, the stronger of the two.
The two of them made up the Wizard King, and they possessed terrifying power that was showcased through Black Clover's final arc, which spanned Chapters 332 to 392. What made Lucius as terrifying as he was, was the overpowered magics he had access to. Lucius had access to Soul Magic, Time Magic, Gravity Magic, Body Magic, Blood Magic, and Bone Magic. To many, it seemed that he was one character that could never truly be surpassed, but with the ending of Black Clover, we have two characters who stand a shot.
Why Asta and Yuno Have Surpassed Lucius After the Time Skip
Lucius, the former Wizard King, was far too strong during the Black Clover story for a single character to take him down. Because of that, his defeat did not come at the hands of a single character. Instead, the most iconic team-up of the story had to take place to take him down. In Black Clover Chapter 360, released on May 29, 2023, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #26, we saw the final battle against Lucius kickstart, which especially gave us the highlights of our two main leads — Asta and Yuno.
Asta and Yuno have always been rivals, but here, they had to stand together to defeat the bigger threat. At that point in the story, both Asta and Yuno were among the strongest characters around, and yet, they could not take Lucius on their own. The two of them even had help from Noelle to distract Lucius and allow them to deal a fatal blow. Finally, the two were able to take down the former Wizard King in Black Clover Chapter 389 in Jump GIGA Winter 2026, which was released on January 5 2025.
"By rights, no living thing should ever be born without magic power. You are the world's 'flaw.' For the sake of a just future, flaws must be eliminated." — Lucius About Asta
Looking at his skill set, it might seem that, at the end of it all, no one was truly able to surpass Lucius individually. However, immediately after the defeat of Lucius, a two-year time skip unfolded. It's been confirmed that both Asta and Yuno have grown tremendously in strength because of extreme training to win the title of Wizard King. We don't know how strong the two of them have grown exactly, but with them already having been close to Lucius in power before the timeskip, they should be on his level or even stronger by now. Asta, especially as the new Wizard King, should have surpassed the previous one, as he is the one who came out victorious in his battle against Yuno in Black Clover Chapter 392. Asta is now cementing himself as the greatest Wizard King of all time with unparalleled strength, thanks to his anti-magic powers, which stood as a perfect counter to Lucius.
New Look at Asta And Yuno’s EOS Power To Be Provided On August 4, 2026, for Black Clover Volume Release
Technically, Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover reached its end chapter in Jump GIGA’s Summer Issue, which was released on May 1, 2026. This chapter gave us the epilogue of the series, where we saw Asta finally achieve his long-held dream of becoming Wizard King, and we saw Yuno become the new leader of the Golden Dawn Squad, which he had been a part of for a long time. Both of them have set themselves up for greatness, but fans are still eager to see more of these two characters in the future.
Luckily, while Black Clover is over, we already have confirmation that the story is returning very soon, but only briefly. On August 4, 2026, Black Clover will release its final installment through Volume 38. However, this volume is not coming on its own. With this volume release, we are also getting a fan book, and we have confirmation from Jump that a new chapter is going to be included with it. At the moment, we don't have confirmation of what this chapter will cover; however, it's highly likely that it will show us more of end-of-story Asta and Yuno. It will perhaps even give us a sneak peek at their new, upgraded powers that we did not get to fully explore previously at the end of the story, due to the brief epilogue. Power levels aside, we will also see a more in-depth conclusion of these character arcs.
Notably, for Asta, we might also see his endgame partner, which Yuki Tabata set up to be either Mimosa or Noelle. Either way, we are very excited for this new release that is coming in less than a month, especially after that unsatisfying conclusion of the original story after such a long wait.
All chapters of Yuki Tabata's Black Clover can be read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
