Within the world of the Dragon Ball franchise, the Saiyans are undoubtedly the main characters and tend to be some of the most powerful figures in the multiverse. As far as Universe 7 is concerned, four of the five most powerful mortal protectors of the universe are Saiyans, which just goes to show how immense their natural strength truly is.

While they definitely get most of the spotlight in this regard, they are far from the only powerful race in the Dragon Ball multiverse. So, in this article, let's go over the strongest non-Saiyan characters in the series who not only rival Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Broly, but, sometimes, could even surpass them!

8 Hit is Universe 6's Most Powerful Assassin

Race: Unknown

Although the Saiyan Kefla proved to be Universe 6's ultimate trump card in the Tournament of Power, the strongest non-fused character in the entire universe was the legendary assassin, Hit. Due to his incredible ability to stop and even supersede time, Hit became known around his universe for never turning down a job and always completing a contract efficiently.

In the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power arcs, Hit proved the overpowered nature of his Time Stop technique, which allowed him to freeze his opponents in a prison of time so that they couldn't move. In fact, he was even stronger than Goku and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue states, which is why Goku needed to layer Kaioken on top of the form to beat him.

7 Toppo Was The First To Realize A Destroyer's Power

Race: Unknown

In the modern day, Vegeta's name is synonymous with the Gods of Destruction due to the awakening of his legendary Ultra Ego transformation. However, the first person to rise to the level of a Destroyer was Toppo during the Tournament of Power, where he finally took up the position of the next God of Destruction for Universe 11.

In this arc, his new form allowed him to use the Energy of Destruction and Hakai, with which he was able to completely destroy those who were weaker than him. Although he was quite new to the power and was later knocked out by Vegeta, he showed just how strong a non-Saiyan character can be in Dragon Ball.

6 Jiren Was The Greatest Challenge In The Tournament Of Power

Race: Unknown

Out of everyone in the Tournament of Power, Jiren proved to be the biggest threat that the heroes faced. Due to his immense innate strength and unparalleled Ki control, he not only held his own against Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku for a time, but he even outlasted this new ultimate state simply because of how much better his control over his energy was.

Jiren's race is unknown, but unlike the Saiyans, it's strongly implied that he doesn't have any unique traits or abilities, and that he reached his incredible power through his hard work and grit alone. When we last saw Jiren, he was defeated at the end of the Tournament of Power, and if he ever makes another appearance in the story, it will definitely be in an even stronger state.

5 Moro's Was The Series' Most Dangerous Villain

Race: Unknown

Moro was the focal point of the Galactic Prisoner Patrol arc, and the events of this story arc definitely showed why this was the case. Although the heroes have faced powerful opponents before, perhaps none were as terrifying as Moro, as his amazing power and insane ability to drain planets of life were horrifying to behold.

Energy absorbers are nothing new to Dragon Ball, but none have ever shown this ability at the same scale as Moro, since he would drain entire planets of life to make himself stronger. By doing this, he eventually reached a state that not even Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku could stop, causing the Saiyan to take in everyone else's energy via Vegeta's reversal of Forced Spirit Fission to take down the monster for good.

4 Granolah Eventually Turned Into A Heroic Figure

Race: Cerealian

Granolah belonged to the Cerealian race, which was unfortunately wiped out by Saiyans decades ago. This prompted Granolah to dedicate the rest of his life to revenge against the Saiyans, which he got the best chance of doing upon making a wish to become the strongest in the universe with the Cerealian Dragon Balls.

Although he would achieve this strength, it came at the price of his remaining lifespan. As the strongest, he was able to effortlessly defeat Goku's Mastered Ultra Instinct state and match Ultra Ego Vegeta blow for blow. Ultimately, he joined the heroes to put down Gas and cemented himself as one of Universe 7's strongest warriors.

3 Gas Made The Same Powerful Wish As Granolah

Race: Heeter

Gas

Gas was originally a regular warrior, but upon making the same wish as Granolah with the Cerealian Dragon Balls, his strength grew to astronomical proportions, surpassing even Granolah, since his wish was made afterward. In doing so, Gas became so powerful that the combined forces of Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah had to take him down.

However, this still wasn't enough, since Gas's strength kept increasing towards the end of the arc, and although they almost defeated him, his old and decrepit state was still technically stronger than the Saiyans and Granolah. However, Gas's body had to keep draining his life force to maintain him as the strongest, which eventually caused it to wither and turn to dust.

2 Piccolo Has Finally Risen To The Level Of The Saiyans

Race: Namekian

One of the biggest complaints that fans have had about Dragon Ball as a whole was the lack of spotlight that side characters, particularly Piccolo, had gotten, since the Namekian has always been one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. However, this was rectified in the Super Hero arc, where Piccolo was finally brought to the level of the main Saiyans.

In his Orange Piccolo state, the Namekian's strength has risen to unprecedented levels, allowing him to match dangerous threats like Cell Max. In the current setting, both Toyotaro and the late Akira Toriyama have confirmed the 5 main heroes to be on the same level of strength, which is an amazing decision as it brings Piccolo back to the center stage.

1 Black Frieza Is The Strongest Mortal In The Multiverse

Race: Frost Demon

Frieza's potential has always been the greatest out of any character in the series, since he was even shown to rise to the level of Super Saiyan Blue with only 4 months of training. And so, Black Frieza is what you would get when someone of such potential gets 10 years' worth of training in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

The resulting transformation was so powerful that Frieza was able to kill Gas and knock out Goku and Vegeta from their strongest Divine Transformations, all with a single punch. If the manga for Dragon Ball Super ever returns, it would be incredibly interesting to see how the heroes would deal with such an overpowered threat.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
