After nearly a year since it first released on current gen consoles, Techland has announced the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast are cancelled.

Over on Twitter, the official Dying Light account posted a message announcing the cancellation. "After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Dying Light: The Beast will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One." Techland explains "Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide."

The post continues, "As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create." Adding, "This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience."

While the fact that we're talking about almost 13 year old consoles makes this not much of a surprise, Dying Light 2 – which The Beast started out as DLC for before being spun off into a full game – ran pretty well on those consoles when it was released back in 2022. However, we are talking about 13 year old consoles, and while the PS4 has had an especially long tail considering we're almost at the end of the PS5's life, it's probably safe to expect that most new games won't be coming to the platform anymore. Techland adds, "We know many of you were looking forward to playing on PS4 or Xbox One, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment this causes."
