Nintendo has dropped a 1.1.0 update for Mario Tennis Fever that adds a bunch of Super Mario Galaxy-themed extras to the Switch 2 sports title, as well as allowing players who don't own the game to join matches over GameChat.

The patch adds a new Fever Racket, the Black Hole Racket. When you hit a Fever Shot with the racket, a black hole forms where the shot hits the ground. Nearby players (but not the ball) will be sucked toward the black hole and suffer damage if they get too close. If their HP reaches zero, they're sucked into the black hole and knocked out.

There's also a new court, the Galaxy Court, situated on one of Super Mario Galaxy's cheery planetoids. The court features a low ball speed and high bounce. The Galaxy Court gets its own themed Special Match, in which the court has an aggressive curve to it like a planet surface in Super Mario Galaxy — though, sad to report, I wouldn't call it "spherical" like Nintendo's patch notes do. During the match, Prankster Comets appear and change the conditions of play, for instance by speeding up the action or introducing one-hit KOs.

The new Play via GameChat mode allows you to play with friends who don't own the game, and supports both swing controls and button controls, as well as the Mix It Up mode.

The update includes a sweeping set of balance changes to both characters and Fever Rackets. Star Shots are now easier to execute, too. Check out the full patch notes for more.

Mario Tennis Fever was released back in February, but this update is well-timed: The Super Mario Galxy Movie starts streaming on Peacock on July 30.
