It's a HUGE week for Magic: The Gathering, with MagicCon Amsterdam this weekend promising a look at The Hobbit and Reality Fracture sets, as well as the three in-universe sets coming in 2027.

Before any of this, however, we have the Weekly MTG stream, which will give us our first official reasonably in-depth look at the Star Trek set, the final Magic set of 2026.

While we don't yet know exactly what will be revealed, we've seen so little from the set so far that any card, mechanic, or story details will be welcome.

Weekly MTG To Offer First Official Star Trek Details

All we know about the Star Trek MTG set right now is that there is definitely a Captain Kirk, Boldly Going card with artwork featuring William Shatner, and that the set releases on November 13, 2026.

The Weekly MTG stream will take place on Tuesday, July 14 at 10am PT on the official Magic: The Gathering Twitch channel. The video will also be uploaded to the official YouTube channel and sit within the Weekly MTG playlist. Each stream lasts for anywhere between 45 minutes to just over an hour.

While most Universes Beyond sets have heavily leaned into properties that include "magic" of some sort, be it elemental or supernatural, Star Trek finds itself primarily as a science fiction property, which has led to some trepidation from the community as to how it will transfer over to Magic.

However, we only need to look at the Edge of Eternities set to get an idea of how an outer-space-themed set might work, and I'd expect to see plenty of Spacecraft and Vehicle cards in this set.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Party mechanic return for the first time since its limited appearance in the Final Fantasy last year. This would be apt, given that Star Trek uses the term "landing party" to describe groups that explore planetary surfaces or other ships, and these comprise various roles that may carry over to Magic: The Gathering quite well.

Too Soon For Trekkies To Get Excited?

While I'm keen to see more of the Star Trek set, especially as it will be the last released before the next Standard rotation, it has to be considered that the next full set preview will be for The Hobbit, which is due to release in August. We then have Reality Fracture releasing in late September for prerelease with the full launch in October, so temper your expectations for the volume of reveals coming during the Weekly MTG stream.

We're expecting to see a lot more of these sets later this week during MagicCon Amsterdam, with there being no announced plans for Star Trek to feature in any way. It appears as though this Weekly MTG stream is the vehicle to get some news about the set before your news feeds are dominated by updates about the next two sets and what is coming from the in-universe sets in 2027.
