Pokemon GO Adding Fan-Favorite Mega Evolution In August Event

Pokemon GO is officially adding Mega Starmie as part of its upcoming Super Mega Raid Day in late August. Since early 2026, Pokemon GO has been consistently releasing highly popular Mega Evolutions such as Mega Skarmory and Mega Dragonite. Now, one of the most viral Mega Pokemon is finally making its debut in the AR game.
The introduction of Pokemon GO's Super Mega Raids in February 2026 allowed players to obtain stronger Mega Pokemon that first appeared in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including Mega Malamar. The mechanic was also the center of the recent GO Fest: Global 2026, which debuted the long-awaited Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. More new Mega Evolutions are expected to launch in Pokemon GO in the coming months, and the game has recently confirmed its next exciting addition.
Pokemon GO Debuting Mega Starmie in August Event
Pokemon GO has revealed that the dual-type Mega Starmie is coming to the game on August 22, 2026, during the upcoming Ultra Unlock: Starmie Super Mega Raid Day. The event will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time and will give fans an increased chance of a shiny Starmie from Super Mega Raids. Additionally, Starmie obtained from Super Mega Raids will automatically have Mega Level 1 unlocked. To help players obtain as many Mega Starmie as possible, the event will grant up to six free Raid passes from spinning Poke Gyms. Fans will also get 5,000 XP from all raids, which can help players level up their Pokemon GO account.

Other special bonuses during Mega Starmie's Pokemon GO event include an increased limit of Remote Raid passes to 20 and a higher chance of obtaining Rare Candy XL from Raids. Moreover, during event hours, exclusive Timed Research will grant players a Premium Battle Pass and an encounter with Scizor. Players can also buy an event ticket for additional rewards like an extra 5,000 XP from Raids and up to 14 Raid passes from Poke Gyms. Mega Starmie may become one of the best Mega Evolutions for Pokemon GO Raids. Players who are looking to add a strong Water-Psychic-type unit to their team should not pass up Mega Starmie's upcoming event.

Mega Starmie's design and unexpectedly good stats arguably turned it into the most popular Mega from Pokemon Legends: Z-A. However, it is not the only new Mega Evolution making its way to Pokemon GO in the coming weeks. On July 18, Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y are making their Pokemon GO debuts with their own Super Mega Raid Day.

There are still plenty of unreleased Mega Evolutions that could launch in Pokemon GO before its ongoing Forever Forward season wraps up in September. The 10th anniversary season already has more major events planned, such as Arrokuda and Cramorant's Pokemon GO debuts from August 18 to 24. Fans can also currently enjoy the game's Pikachu Celebration event, with several costumed Pikachu from past events spawning in the wild until July 20.
