Resident Evil Requiem launched earlier this year, and it won't be long until we've got Resident Evil Veronica in our hands, as it's set to launch next year. But if this latest rumour is to be believed, Capcom isn't slowing down the Resi releases just yet.

According to reliable leaker Dusk Golem, the long-rumoured Resident Evil 1 Remake is further along in development than expected. In fact, it will be Capcom's focus once Veronica is out the door, meaning it could enter full production as soon as next year.

Resident Evil 1 Remake Will Be The Next Major Resi Release After Veronica, According To A Reliable Leaker

As spotted by Eurogamer, Dusk Golem made these comments on Twitter. These comments were made when someone asked about the possibility of a Resident Evil 1 Remake.

"It started early production nearly a year ago (I hear last August-September is when it started pre-production)," Dusk Golem says. "It'll probably enter full production after Resident Evil Veronica is finished with its crunch period it's in right now."

If the term "crunch period" worries you, Dusk Golem followed up by saying that this just refers to the stage of development it is in - not that Capcom is crunching more than expected. In fact, we're told that the game is "super ahead of schedule".

Resident Evil 1 Remake being the next game after Veronica would line up with what we've heard. Around the time that the Veronica remake rumours were being shared around, we also learned of another remake of the first game, although there were fewer details. The source, who previously gave us accurate Requiem leaks, also told us the game would be played in first person, but this might have changed since then, since we were told that in 2024.

Dusk Golem has said that Capcom has "no idea" what to do with Resident Evil 5 and 6, so we shouldn't expect those remakes anytime soon. That is despite theories that Resident Evil 4 Remake was setting up something to do with Resi 5 - it looks like Capcom is still deciding how it would even approach the more recent releases.
